well.... im sure the images will be cached and after you have seen a majority of the recent posts most members' avatars should be cahced so you wont have to (1) waste bandwidth (2) waste time, but you might have to (3) put up with tannin's silly animations.

    Strange Broadband Modem Issue

oh... i was under the impression that you were getting disconencted when idle.... I'm wondering.... did you go from the old PC to the new pc and only then see problems? Did you try re-hooking the DSL up to the old pc for a day or so AFTER you noticed the problems? I just want to rule out...

how big do you want it? I think the size limit is an attempt at keeping the site readable. If someone is using an avatar that is excessively large it might throw off the rest of the page. I believe the on site avatars limit is 80x80, howeer you can host your own avatar off-site that is...

    PC sound system

typically it only matters when you ahve more than 1 speaker of the same sound range. One speaker is moving out while the other is moving in and you will compete with each other. Hence, one is out of phase. However, if you have 1 speaker like a sub woofer, that is producing sound lower than the...

Poll:When will we reach the new 48-bit LBA limit?

I said 10 years. I agree with tannin, IMO we it will be a non-issue because we will be using some other type of storage. So, i estimate in perhaps 10 years we will have finally moved on to something bigger and better, hopefully solid-state, that does not rely on LBA 48.

    Strange Broadband Modem Issue

the kt400 should have perfect USB ports (AFAIK).... the VIA usb problems were with a much older version.... you're new setup seems fine... nice computer. What I would suggest to you is to call your ISP and ask for a new DSL modem, one which supports Ethernet. Barring that, you may find...

Can anybody explain this transfer rate to me?

that is od... why would the transfer rate almost exactly halve itself at the 15gb mark? and since you say it seems to change... 18bg mark now? it almost does sound like the drive is having to read each part twice....

    PC sound system

    1) I don't think the polarity really matters( or even applies) since all audio speakers use AC and not DC.. so the polarity is chaning constantly and if you only use 1 sub it probably dosen't matter.... However, if the output from your reciever is a single RCA output, the inner wire is usually...

    Strange Broadband Modem Issue

I would tend to believe in the keep-alive thought... My recomendation for internet conenctions is to always choose a 10/100 NIC over USB unless absolutely unavoidable. It is possible that there is something finicky about your friends USB controllers... what kind of controller/mobo is your...

I'd say either the 7 or the 9 would be fine... if you want to control fan speeds get the 7+ or the 9. I don't know if you're concerned about weight.. i cant find the specs on the thermaltake website.. but the volcano 7 is AMD recommended.. the volcano 9 is probably too new to have been tested.

Video card for mid-range business systems

There was alot of problems with the geforce and geforce 2 MX series because many manufacturers used sub par (below what nvidia recommended) components in their designs... this was to cut corners on a low-end product obviously. When you buy Matrox, you know it was built by matrox, a good...

But like I said, Nvidia producers vary a great deal. So, I suggest Tannin test the cards out. If he finds them acceptable, then he should sell them. This is my opinion and I will be happy to know that you paid twice as much for your matrox than I did for my TNT and I ended up with the better...

Trust me, my g400 dual head gets too hot to touch. My TNT2 M64 is barely warm to the touch after hours of quake 3... same computer, same everything... Infact, I find that alot of cards are actually hot just running the desktop than playing a 3D game.
