It does seem weird that you have to pay for a movie (essentially paying for the right to watch the movie whenever you please for private use) and yet you are not allowed to copy any part of it, create a backup disk, or decrypt it for other uses without the use of specially aproved software.

s-video vs component? I notice a drastic change between RCA and s-video on my home TV when watching DVD's... but on the monitor I used to use at school it had component, composite and s-video... and I couldn't tell the difference between the component and s-video.

the newer ones, yes... some are always fixed, some have a PCI lock and some have an AGP lock and some have both.
