    Elections Have Consequences

There is strength in numbers, and I think that our history shows that. The fact that European nations are trying so hard to build the EU shows that this is going to be a key going forward. And, heck, these guys don't even speak a small number of different languages. As for loose...

    PS3 media machine...?

If you want to use a gaming console, it seems to me that the Xbox 360 would be a better choice. It's cheaper and is designed to act as a media center. The PS3 is... a trainwreck.

    Elections Have Consequences

I believe that's what we call libertarianism. You know, get the government the fuck out of the way of me making my money. It doesn't work (at least not any better than communism ever really did) and it's certainly not in the best interests of this country. As is often the case, the real...

    More Vista nonsense

That's not quite true. As for many titles, *existing* Adobe products aren't supported on Vista. You can't expect a company to support their software on an operating system that wasn't out at the time of release. Particularly one that's as hacked-up as Vista.

Perhaps for rich people... but when you need to buy a number of them, it ends up being a large chunk of change. For the rest of us, the price needs to be ~$100 or less to even consider it.

Who cares what OS you run?

I'd say that it helps that Microsoft stuff seems to "break" more often, and it's users are far more likely to be helpless. If you were supporting Linux or BSD, you'd have more intimate knowledge of the operating system and software. Theoretically, if there was bug in open software, you could...

    WinXP 64-bit SP2 Released (+64bit Win2K3 Srvr)

Well, no, but I'm also not one to have a single application use that much. This, however, does not explain to which source we should attribute that snappiness. Windows XP x64 isn't simply a recompile of Windows 2003 Server; they have differing features beyond their bitness.

    RFC: SOHO NAS solutions

I guess I'm a little late on this one, but I would have suggested an Infrant ReadyNAS. It's definitely more expensive and bit more difficult to setup, but the drives are user-replaceable, and it's, therefore, upgradeable. I can't talk to the more recent revisions, but at the time that I bought...

    WinXP 64-bit SP2 Released (+64bit Win2K3 Srvr)

I've been using 2.5" 10k SAS drives for a while, and there isn't really a good answer to your question. In general, they seem to produce less heat, but have less surface area with which to get rid of it. By their internal sensors, the drives run cooler than the 3.5" 15k drives that they...

    WinXP 64-bit SP2 Released (+64bit Win2K3 Srvr)

Windows XP SP2 seems to like to vary what it sees on my machine between 3 to 3.5GB. It's not as if there is a limit; the operating system simply won't recognise more than 4GB of memory addresses. So, whatever is in use by your system for components it unavailable for mapping actual RAM.

    WinXP 64-bit SP2 Released (+64bit Win2K3 Srvr)

Unfortunately, it's hard to tell what part of that snappiness is due to its 64-bitness and what part is due to its Win2k3 heritage.

    Recycled Toner?

I wouldn't use third party recycled toner cartridges for Cannon engine laser printers, such as those from HP. Several years ago, I worked for a group with a large number of HP lasers. They tried going with third-party stuff, and it was pretty bad. Prints were poor, toner ran out quicker, and...

Best compression program (7-zip, WinZip, etc)

I use WinRAR for archival purposes. Compression is good and speed is acceptable. More importantly, RAR gives options to add recovery records and authenticity verification. This way, if an archive gets damaged, I can attempt to recover; and I can tell if someone has tampered with the archive.
