"Cheap" system with 64 bit / 66Mhz PCI slots?

I know several consultants who couldn't grasp the idea of paying taxes quarterly -- as required by law. And, to be honest, by giving the government their money monthly, we're saving a boatload in short-term borrowing.

    Virtualized OS & Multicore CPUs

Partitioning is not virtualization in the sense that we are talking about, so they don't really compare. A partition is a subset of hardware that appears as a separate machine. The operating system actually runs on the partition hardware, whereas a "virtual machine" runs in software that runs...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

Unfortunately, I don't have a bunch of indirect fixtures installed in my house. And, even so, I couldn't fit lights with enough lumens inside the fixtures. I was thinking that maybe I could replace the CFLs in the hanging fixture over my dining room table, as it doesn't call for a lot of light...

    Virtualized OS & Multicore CPUs

I'm not sure what the advantage of assigning cores would be. Actually, it seems kind of limiting, resource-wise. In general, I'm one to be running one VM, which the operating system will generally run on one core, or multiple, which need to be able to move between cores to remain smooth. So...

    My internet access sucks!

Isn't that peak Internet-at-home time? With cable access like being on a neighborhood LAN, it's always had those high-demand time problems. You'd think, with the competition coming on from the telcos, they'd do something about that. Now that I don't even have to get "cable" from the cable...

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

All I'm looking for is a similar lifecycle cost. I did a little looking around, and still looks like no one has really solved the directionality issue. Isn't this just a geometry problem? Arranging the LEDs in such a way as to seem like like is given off in all directions.

    AoE - ATA over ethernet

I don't suspect that ethernet will overtake FC anywhere near overnight, but it seems that the ethernet technology will be cheaper at the high-end. When you can use the same stuff for SANs and general data (even if segregated networks), it ends up being cheaper.

Ah, the illusion of workforce mobility. If you can barely afford where you are now, how do you get the money to move? You have to have savings and/or credit; these folks don't have that! And if you do move, how are you going to make money there? You can't move to someplace cheaper with no...

I've been involved in the development of big (and generally messy) bit of software that could make or break the company, and something as easy as support of an older operating system is an enormous amount of work. Even if it only needs to be tested, every key case and good amount of general...

The 3,5 GB RAM limit of Windows

As the comments in the link point out, that's really false. Every relatively recent x86 processor (since, what, Pentium II days?) will allow the operating system to address more than 4GB of memory. Until SP1, 32-bit Windows XP could do this; server versions continue to have this ability...
