    Thanks Merc: Speeze CPU cooler

It should be fine. I have mine in an old, poorly ventilated Inwin case (circa 1997), in a room with high temperatures (currently about 80F), and it keeps the CPU cooler than the retail heat sink.

ATI Charging Some For MMC 8.1 Update

It is just the DVD support that's missing, afterall. I tried it last night, and it installed fine.

ATI Charging Some For MMC 8.1 Update

If it's only the DVD support that's missing, then that's fine. I like PowerDVD better, and their DVD player messed up my ability to play any MPEG-2 file on my system. I'll have to give it a try later tonight.

ATI Charging Some For MMC 8.1 Update

ATI is charging $9.99 + shipping to get the latest MMC 8.1 on a CD, except for those with a Radeon 9x00 series card (who get to download if for free). Why do companies do this? http://www.ati.com/shopati/promotions/mmc81.html

    Determining number of directory levels

I just tried this on a CD-RW and burned a test file that was buried 12 directories deep. It gave a warning saying that it was over 8 levels deeps, and are you sure you want to do this. I said yes, and it burned fine, and I was able to read the the file once it was done (on XP, I haven't tried on...

[NEWS] - Sony's blue laser recorder on April 10

Is that $150 for a ±RW drive? If it is, I don't see how they could sell one for less than half the price of the Sony, although I would love for them to do that. $150 for a drive that is only +RW or only -RW is much more realistic, in the short term.

    Determining number of directory levels

Nero has an option to "Allow pathdepth of more than 8 directories" under the ISO tab of the write CD dialog. I haven't tried this option myself, so I don't know how well it works, or what OSes can read it.

    Thanks Merc: Speeze CPU cooler

Fedex came very early today, so I got a chance to install one of these, this morning. I replaced a retail HSF for my Duron 850, that ran at an irritating 6250RPM.
