Synology share access via IP address

Have you tried adding the domain name to the user name? eg DOMAIN\username as it's often done when you want to access objects that are not part of the current domain. Maybe the CIFS server only uses the domain name if accessed via the computer name (the pc name is part of the SMB/CIFS...

I've been running it for a number of years. My now standard Firefox setup has NoScript, Ghostery, AdBlockPlus and Lightbeam installed. Pretty much blocks most crap, and lightbeam shows all the connections that are possible even with those blockers. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/lightbeam/

    Got a Latitude D610!

FYI, Most business class laptops (like the D610) from that era had similar or higher resolutions. Approx 5-6yrs ago, the race to drop prices resulted in lower res screens for both desktop monitors and laptop monitors. Case in point, my two 20" TFTs are now 8+yr old and are 1680x1050 in res...

That was my thought in regards to both? Why does a BMC need direct access to the Internet, and the only reason I can think of giving a NAS direct access is if has FTP or web functionality tat you wanted to explicitly expose... Yes these sorts of things shouldn't happen, but security requires...

    TR's SSD endurance test

Agree 100%. But I was under the impression, that once write limits were reached, the drive would remain in read-only mode indefinitely and not brick themselves at some point in the future (and I suspect many users would expect the same sort of thing).

Isn't there some consumer law in the US regarding: 1. False advertising? The product is not as decribed. 2. You can't offer a "new" product without warranty? I know in Australia, both of the above practices (whilst do occur) are illegal. You have the right to return a product (within a...

    i7-4960X / Socket 2011 issues

@Tannin, the same would also apply to AMD as well... considering their sockets tend to have a longer life span in availability, but you pretty much always require a BIOS update if you wish to use a new CPU in an older motherboard. How is that any different in the current Intel world since socket...

    i7-4960X / Socket 2011 issues

IMHO it's the BIOS/UEFI developers that are at fault... The basic problem is that they don't have a safe fallback mode if an unknown CPU is installed, but instead rely on discrete lists of known CPUs and required configurations. If the BIOS on startup doesn't recognise the CPU, then they...

    Sound under Ubuntu not working

IIRC, it's alsa muting by default. Use alsamixer to unmute the primary channel, then save the alsa state. Reboot and you should be fine. Out of interest, did you have these issues under Arch, or has installing Ubuntu proven to be more difficult due to oddities in the defaults?

In line with JTR mentions, in most European countries where loans are used for University level education, the state will wipe the debt if not paid after 15-25 years, as it's assumed that after this time if you haven't warned enough to repay the debt, you're highly unlikely to in the future...
