They're all awesome! You're making me envious! I wish I had a cat. :( My top four favorites... One Two Three Four If you have no objections I might use a couple for backgrounds at work. Honestly, number #1 and #3 above make Zelda look like she ought to be in a professional cat show or in...

Hmm ... I ran into a 403 Forbidden error while trying to post a while back. I just assumed something was screwy and forgot about it. I can't think what I would have been trying to post that would have included the etymological duo of doom. Are there other words that can cause this?

PSWD clear = CMOS reset in Dell? Power outage fried dell.

If it's the power supply, it was coincidence it happened during a power failure. We have a few hundred recent model Dells where I work. You shut them down. You power them back up. Or rather you try; they don't power back up. It doesn't matter if you went through a normal system shutdown...

    SuSE goes free

Unless something has changed in the past 3 years that I haven't heard about... Write capacity for NTFS shares is experimental, and has been that way for a while. You would probably need to build a custom kernel with an obscure patch to enable it. And then you'd be toying with fire. Reading...

    Computer randomly shuts off

Oh sure, I believe you when you say there is no case speaker, but are you sure there isn't a tiny piezo-buzzer mounted on the motherboard itself? On the boards I own that have one of those, it's disabled automatically should you connect a real case speaker to the motherboard at the correct...

    Printer error message

That looks like a PostScript error page. If you have an option titled "Enable PostScript Error Handler" somewhere under one of the advanced properties for your printer driver, set it to disabled. HP and Microsoft printer drivers default to "enabled" -- and that's a joke. It's not an error...

    looking for server case suggestions.

Nobody will believe me but... I work in a small office area that was sectioned out of an active underground parking garage. There are still stripes on the floor in some places. The ground shakes a lot when even a moderately laden truck drives above or onto our level. And once in a while I...

    Folding@Home

. Cover your eyes, Tannin! It's a PC Chips M811 motherboard. According to the manual, it includes a "VIA KT266A + VT8235 chipset" and it "accomodates AMD Athlon processors with FSB speeds up to 133MHz." Does that help? I did actually get this board up and running using my Duron processor at...

Hah. I was just thinking about that and was going to ask... I unearthed an evil PC Chips motherboard over the weekend that actually came free (yes, they're giving these things away!) with the 1.6MHz Duron processor that's running in my main system. So ... if anyone has an old Duron processor...

    Tektronix Phaser waste cartridges

I'm just guessing here: perhaps there is a sensor that detects how full the cartridge is and it now has gunk all over it (a similar thing can happen with an HP DesignJet and its "drop detector" and "service station" assembly). Or perhaps it's one of those delightful cash-grabs, where a...

    Folding@Home

I'm surprised that completing one measly work unit has raised my standing so much. I'll try to leave the client running, but with only a 1.6 MHz Duron, I'm not sure it will make much of a difference for the team statistics. :-?

printing on the upward facing side of the paper ?

Howell, I know I must be missing something here, because I really want to reply, "or you could just turn the paper over in the tray," but I know I'm just not seeing the whole picture here. What is it about these forms that make it impossible to simply reorient them, as opposed to having the...

A critical look at the future (oil)

I'd prefer to see that coal used to generate electricity or hydrogen, and then have cars run off that. Sure it's less efficient, but it would get us to the point of finally having a universal energy adapter. That way, when coal runs out -- or a better energy source arrives -- you just switch...
