Good doesn't do them justice. They are incredible.
Courses they play are narrow, long, and really hard, as a general rule.
You would need a commando team to get most players out of the ruff on some of the courses they play.
The shortest hitter on the tour is long by regular standards, since he's probably 260-265, but dead straight now. The consistency is the really incredible part of their game. Same with some of the girls.
Golf is a weird game, becuase for short spurts, if you've played awhile,
you can play close to the pro level. But to do it for even two rounds, well, ask Annika Sorenson.
That said, let's see tour players I've run into. When I worked in the Hilton H. Village, as a waiter, Kenny Perry stiffed me. It seemed to be pretty much because I didn't recognize him. He was probably 124th on the money list at the time, and never on TV
We watched Tom Kite practice at the Hawaiian Open. He hit more balls, better, in one session, with more percision, then a normal player would do in his life. His swing was incredibly consistent, and the little muscles, that
wear out in a normal person, must be the size of cables in him. He spent about 3 hours working on his irons. Aren't many people that can even swing for that long, at that pace.
VJ Singh hitting balls into the twilight, so dark you can't see em after about 20 feet.
Quick golf story. I used to play the Olympic Club every Thursday, with either Bruce Kiplinger, or Steve Videtta, the assistant pros up there.
On another day, we are playing Seascape in Aptos, since it was a weekend. We are on a 346 yard par 4, slight dogleg, and flat.
We are playing with two teachers from the area. One guy gets up and hits the ball a paced off, 296 yards. I crank one up, and it's 320.
Bruce thinks I'm getting cocky, so he drives the green, 346 yards. I think
he used a 3 wood.
The guy hit the best drive of his life, and was third in the foursome for drive length.
That's what it's like playing with pros. At anytime, they are capable of coming up with truly incredible shots to beat you, and they KNOW they are going to do it.
