I saw this same picture in another forum and the folks there were quick to point out that the lense covers have pin holes for infra red. (which is used sometimes in the day)

Not to meantion that this particular instant in time may be the instant after he was handed the glasses and the instant before he removes the lense caps because he can't see anything. I have seen nearly exact pictures of other public figures.
