Snakeskin boots

Why do they call them snakeskin boots? A snake sheds it's skin, and that's not what the boots are made from. If this is true, then what are 'snakeskin' boots made from?

This is merely a rhetorical question, but if anyone has an imformative answer........

Snakeskin boots are in fact made from a snake's skin and leather. A snake sheds its outer layer of skin when it outgrows it, usually several times a year. Snakeskin boots are made from snakes that are killed when they aren’t shedding their skin, and they use more than just the outer layer.

I'll take a size 12, loose in the length, but tight in the width. Boa or python if possible, that rattlesnake stuff just doesn't wear very well. Something dark too, it should match by black felt hat.
