I am omnipresent
Typically even Maxtor drives outperform Barracudas, once Seagate gets around to releasing them.

Maybe they're just being ironic.

They need to continue funding their existing massive development in spindle-based hard drives. They are the 1 million ton ship trying to turn with the new direction of SSD and probably can't. The companies that make them now have little to no investment in the existing spindle technology so they can develop from the ground up. If I were Seagate (et al), I'd strongly consider buying up a smaller SSD company and make it their own so they can get some up-take on the SSD market before it becomes really huge.

Ooops, I'm a little late. At 72000 RPM do you trust a Seagate more than a Hitachi or WD? Can I assume that the XT will negotiate back to 3.0Gb/s?

Why would spinning disks even bother developing for the new SATA standard? It's not like they are going to need it...
SAS will, and that's where I think spinning disks can hold out the longest.

They're relatively cheap per terabyte and far more responsive than tape....

Are there any decent 8-port controllers for them yet?

The egg has them, but only for sale with a system for some reason. The cost is too high, comparable to the WD.
