Where you buy wives...I hope it didn't cost too many goats. You should look into the mule market...it might offer a better trade.

PS Don't worry, I'll only look...away.

Ahh my thanks to you for liking. Wife on right is Maha which mean "wild cow" in my language. She good worker. Maha cost two rams and six she goats, very expensive. The other wife is Ghaniyah, that mean beautiful woman. She is good for pleasure of Mustafa but that all. Talk too much. Want to go shopping all the time. That why Maha carry training stick to teach her to be quiet yes? Ghaniyah was only two she goats and three dinar. Mustafa dont know what mule is. you explain?

You not like that "time" american. he not nice to mustafa. You no let him look at wives OK?

Is it such a struggle to figure out? Apparently it is. I got tired and silly I'm afraid as one is apt to do from time to time. If I've bored you please forgive me. My apologies to all.

I'd hate to discourage you Bill, but despite being a nifty idea, this one just didn't seem to fly. :(

Mind you, I don't find Ekaf-Ami hysterically funny either ... There's only so many people you can catch out with that approach, and only one Sivar. :mrgrn:

Please don't hesitate to try again, though. :D It's more than I could manage with my castrated creativity.

Mmmmm .... No, on the whole I ended up liking Mustafa. At first I thought he was a bit over the top, but then he provided a belly laugh or two and several of those long, slow smiles where you don't actually laugh out loud but you stop and read the post over several times, slowly, shaking your head in admiration at the creativity. I think Bill's eye for detail is quite extraordinary.

I have spent the whole weekend here at home, trying my best to fight off the worst effects of a cold, a little feverish, and rather miserable. I've felt a little guilty about not jumping in and helping Bill out with his creation - for great humor is like a great mark: you can only reach the heights of achievement when you have a shoulder or two to climb on.

(Without Gavin Crossica's shoulder to stand on, Brett Allison's 1992 Mark of the Year would not have happened.)

Humour is like that too, and Bill was clearly in good form. I felt that I was rather letting the side down by not participating. I'm sure that, had Ekaf taken a part in things, one or other of us might have wound up really scaling the heights. Ekaf and two other Bill creations, Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde, between them produced one of the funniest threads ever over at Storage Review a couple of months ago.

But it was not to be. I was sick, and uncreative. Sorry Bill.

Oh, and poor Sivar! That now makes two people who have made complete fools of themselves on SR by taking Ekaf-Ami seriously - something I never intended to achieve in either case. Honest, it just happened. (The other one was ... well ... let's just say his initials include the letters "P" and "W".)

That thread where Sivar made his small mistake, by the way, was a good example of the "it takes two or more people to create really funny stuff" rule. Ekaf posted, Sivar responded, and The Giver took hold of the knife and twisted it with glee and abandon. Poor Sivar!

I laughed and laughed and laughed.

I spent about an hour carefully crafting a pair or responses to that thread (as I was more or less duty-bound to do, as the origiator of the mistaken identity), in the personas of Tea and Ekaf - only to have the power go off at a crucial moment. At that point I gave up and went home.

Tony, sounds like it's time for a UPS or two. I've been depressed ever since Geelong got kicked out of the final 8. Not that it matters, everytime they get into the Grand Final they go to water and embarass themselves anyway

Quite so, Pradeep. Trouble is, a UPS sufficient to run my office rig costs big dollars. 21-inch monitor, rather more big old SCSI drives than is good for me, hub (for without the network there ain't much point), and so on. I'd actually need at least three UPS units. I think thte correct term for my office setup is "distributed computing gone mad".

Well I was thinking you could just use one on the machine you tend to use most to browse the web. Or do you use multiple machines? The ones doing folding don't really need a UPS given the cost.

Given my rididulous over-investment in technology, I'd need three UPS units, or two at a pinch. There is the XP with 21 monitor, then, in another room, the Smoothie, the hub, and the cable modem, plus the technical server that stores everything I download, which is the one with the four SCSI hard drives and is in yet another room. Oh, plus the till, the EFTPOS machine, and above all, the kettle.

I think the best answer is to get the sparky back in to split the place off onto several different circuits. Then, if some shitbox in the workshop that has come in for repair spits the dummy and takes the power down - something that happens more often than I like - the office machines can keep on crunching.

From the "My back is STILL sore" dept.

One major point against both UPSes and 21" monitors: They really suck when it's time to move.

Hey Tony, wanna buy my Matrix 3000 UPS? Surely with 2750W of output power, you could run your whole shop off it for at least a while?

I'm thinking of getting rid of it because with 3 big fans it's a little noisy for a home environment. It only cost me about AUD140 including shipping ($50 at auction, plus $90 to get it from the Sydney suburbs to my house) but at 90kg it'd be a bit costly to ship to Ballarat. Make an offer if you like though. :mrgrn:

That's a very generous offer, James. The freight could be dealt with, but I wonder what yet another 60dBA would do to my office. Perhaps if I were to reorganise the place a little further....

Note, you'd also need a Smartcell battery to go with it. Dunno what you can get it for - a new set of 4 goes for $1700 or so, but you should be able to get them singly for less new and even less from auctions.

Full disclosure here. When I bought it it didn't have a battery; I borrowed one while I was using it so I know it all works.

Jump on that thing, Tannin. You can always stick it in a wood crate with some cut-outs for the power cables, or toss it in a closet. Heck, one of those old dot-matrix printer-silencing enclosures would even be good enough. James is offering you a bargain, even if you have to buy the consumables.

On the other hand, for the price of the batteries, I can get an electrician to come and re-wire the place properly - which it needs. It is a bargain, but for once in my life I ought to do the sensible thing.
