A lot of malware is distributed by completely mainstream Advertising Services like Doubleclick. All it takes it for one ad with a snippet of javascript that invokes an Acrobat exploit to run once every 10,000 impressions on a big site like cnn.com for a half hour or so and a malware author is in business.

Last malware I ran into was running a Czech Supermodel for images.
EVERY page seemed to be malwared, and shut down by Nod32. I do use Nod32 at max settings, and the Beast runs it quickly.

As Merc has pointed out, why not use a spare laptop I don't care about, just in case I run into a 'rootkit' or some such stuff?

For some infections, it would be best to do a re-install of the OS. It is easier to do a file copy rather than a reinstall, even with a backup.

It's pretty easy to erase, and start over with the Panasonic restore disk.
Recently it pulled a corrupt file, AVAST found it, quarantined it, and then it was deleted on restart by diskscan.
