Input devices are something we use ALL the time.

My choices right now are:
1751382777391.png
Yes, it's 20 years old. Mine is left handed, and I have a right handed one, as well.
I would like to have two mice, one right, and one left, at the same time.
My right hand mouse is this one:
30 bucks, and it works great, but no left handed mouse.
I like big mice, since I have big hands.
The other issue is the current mouse pads. I wonder why they have a wrist rest that puts pressure on the spot that gets operated on, for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Doesn't make much sense to me.
My nuerosurgeon that did my wrist did NOT have a wrist rest that puts pressure on your wrist.
The Elecom wireless mice are big, nice, but seem to stop working, at least in Win 11.
Their cost also is an issue. Anywhere from 30 to 70.00.
Also, their software seems to suck.
Some have a USB plugin. Some don't, and they tend to be flaky.
Your choices?

I swear by Logitech trackballs and I have no issues with RSI in spite of my decades-long, very active pointing lifestyle.
Have you investigated vertical or pistol-grip mice at all?

Late 90's I had trackballs with the Macs. White bottom, big ball. Can't find a picture. I have a problem with too much oil on my fingers, face, etc. Trackballs don't much like that.

This is as close as I've come to a pistol grip mouse:

What Pistol grip mice have you tried? Which Logitech are you using? Reviews?

One of my customers uses a Logitech Vertical mouse because of arm mobility issues unrelated to RSI. I've only had to use it a couple times but since Logitech wants $100 for it, it's probably not at the top of your list regardless. I've seen other people using pistol grip mice over the years. I know they're out there.

I use Logitech M575 or Ergo S trackballs almost everywhere I have a desktop PC. They use your thumb for pointing rather than forefingers. I'd suggest trying a refurb or secondhand version before you buy one of the more expensive models, although oddly my last and most heavily-discounted order for them, from woot.com, had South American packaging and cost so little I was convinced I was getting a knock-off.

Elecom looks a LOT like the Logitech vertical mouse, for 29.00.
Plus, they make BIG, XL mice.

The Logitech M575 might be worth a look...

Ergo S is 120.00? Are they on Fentanyl?

Got the right hand version of the Elecom working, and installed the software.
Left handed doesn't have a dongle, and won't work with Bluetooth on it's own.
This is the third computer I've tried it on, so it maybe trash time.

Elecom makes a left handed track ball version for a reasonable price, 40.00

Kensington was the trackball I used with the macs, but the same design, or near it, is now 110.00.

This looks like the one: Big, wider then any I've used, and I hope it's up to Mercutio's standards. Price at 41.00 is right, too. Aren't a lot of choices for left handed. This is it, pretty much.

When looking at premium pointing devices, I see absolutely no reason not to consider used or refurbished units. You can dip them in vodka or something if you're worried about hand-cooties.

I did. For the one I just bought, it was 3.00 cheaper.
Also bought a large, wired, left handed backup mouse to replace the one I'm going to have to trash, that wasn't wired, or dongled.

I kind of learned a lesson. Elecom appears to have stopped making Extra Large left handed vertical mice.
I'm stuck with with large, and grabbing one while I can.

I am kind of amazed that Amazon has mice that are 300.00.!!!

Have two Elecom mice up and working, left and right hands. the right is the Xlg, and fits my hand very well.
The large doesn't fit as well, but allows me to put the razer mouse away.

Not really. I check woot, which is now an Amazon brand anyway and occasionally get bored enough to look for stuff on Ebay. They'll sometimes have stuff at a discount from even used prices on the main Amazon site. I'm mostly looking for stuff like thumb drives, PC cases and AM4 motherboards, since those are things I know I'll use as soon as I get them. I also swap parts around with a couple local electronics repair guys and with some of my former students.

I used to have a hook up from knowing the on-site ops at my local datacenter colo, which was just disorganized enough to not have a formal disposal policy, but that went away a year ago. Being friendly with datacenter ops is probably the best way in the world to get PC components.

Thanks.
Trackball mouse is in, and hooked up. Feels kind of cheap compared to the old Kensington trackball I had, but, it's not 150.00 either.
The whole thumb thing is going to be a new kind of coordination for me to learn. Which is great. Need challenges at my age.
Thanks again. Turned the mouse speed down, until I get used to it, and my thumb quits shaking.
