This is not too far from my proposed massive "disc library" using my proposed low-spin-speed ultra-high-capacity 3.5-inch SATA (or SAS) drive mechanisms:

I still believe my plan is better since it uses ultra-durable 4500 or 3600 RPM drives that spin slow and cool, mirrored for protection, and plugged into a SCA-like backplane with switched data channels (SAS or F-C).


On a tangent here... I have setup RAIT (tape-based RAID) on certain for perfoming very fast backups -- using CA ArcServe with the CA Tape RAID add-on (purchased separately).
