tl;dr: Trumped-up vulnerabilities in AMD chips are being pushed by firm which is likely shorting its stock.

I think AMD should have been given time to investigate the alleged flaws. Publishing it to the public was simply not right, this gave hackers enough opportunity to look for the flaws themselves, and probably use it before AMD has any chance to rectify the problem. Remember Google gave Intel more than six months before it went public.
