I've had this problem before, but this evening, I'm burned out and I can't figure out how to fix it. There's a junk echo/reverb problem with the Windows sound (but not when you play a video) on the two used computer systems I purchased today. I did a clean install on them. I used the driver provided by Lenovo/IBM on their web site. I tried to muted the microphone, but it didn't work. There's no SoundMax panel installed in the control panel, so I can't simply disable audio effects.

Any idea?

Nevermind. Thanks for reading.

Re-downloaded the driver from Lenovo's web site. Disabled the anti-virus. Went to the directory where the setup executable was instead of updating the inf through the device manager. The setup executable first uninstalled the old driver (was the same version, whatever) and rebooted the system. After rebooting, I re-disabled the antivirus, went to the directory with the setup file and re-executed it. Works like a charm.

I told you I was burn out this evening.
