Jeez Uda. What a load of crap. Please stay away from the cheap wine before posting. Besides, it was a coalition of US and British Commonwealth forces that defended Australia in WWII from the Japanese Imperial forces. Britain was already tied up in India and Burma fighting the Japanese when...

Hmmm... Seems as if I handled some of these 45 nanny quaddy Xeons also, but that was way back in December 2007... and it was a dual-socket server package... and its name rhymed with Hell.

    WD greenpower 1TB drive

PC Gaming = World of Suck

I give no damn about gaming (as opposed to giving a damn). But, someone I know sent me a link to this, and I thought it to be both ridiculous and hilarious. :rotfl: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260177215240

    The Atom is here

I've been seeing 3 SmartCars around the neighbourhood this year (a black one and 2 different blue ones -- one with Canadian plates). Saw someone driving an Isetta on occasion around here about 7 or 8 years ago.

    Card reader trouble & recommendations

Thanks for correcting me on that. It certainly makes sense for such ExpressCard add-in devices (like FaxModems, etc) to use the internal USB2 port instead of a screaming fast PCIe port (lane). By the way, it looks like I meant 2.5 Gb/s not 250 Gb/s up there. (sheesh!). :compress:

    Large RAID arrays

I could do a Spock joke here, but... I don't know your precise needs, expectations, or situation there at the "factory." But, from what I gathered by skimming through the talk in this thread (the last time I was here) is that it looks like a SAN -- or possibly NAS -- should have been planned...

    Vostro: the "Business" Inspiron?

I've seen one Vostro in person at someone's house (running XP). I saw nothing wrong with it mechanically. As for de-crapification: I though they came without pre-loaded gobbledygook.

    Card reader trouble & recommendations

Thanks, Lunar. I meant to say ExpressCard -- instead of dredging up the fact that ExpressCard is simply the standard form of a removable native PCIe device (250 Gb/s full-duplex block data rate per lane). <drool> Out in the field, I still (occasionally) use my 80 GB Kangaru storage device to...

    Vostro: the "Business" Inspiron?

On positive thing about the Vostro lineup is that you have the option of ordering systems with WinXP instead of (V) (I) (S) (T) (A).

    Card reader trouble & recommendations

Probably a recommendation from this entity: He has recommended and used the "fast" Delkin card reader to many here and in the real world (after testing one at an exposition). For desktop usage: SanDisk USB2 readers are fast, compatible, troublefree, well-built, and ergonomic. These are...

Seagate Cheetah Ultra 320 out of warranty...

You did check here to see if it is out of warranty, correct? http://support.seagate.com/customer/warranty_validation.jsp If so, and it is indeed out of warranty, then it's definitely not worth messing with -- as far as locating a vendor that deals in buying dead drives to be reconditioned /...

    Lost: stupid audio thread

There was also a great pile of cack floating around the audio community back in the early '90s, where people were claiming that a CD with copious amounts of green permanent marker ink applied to the back side (the label side) of an audio CD made the audio output quality smoother. Sheesh!

Quiet tower case for 8+ HDDs?

In my Supermicro SC-942 case, I swapped out the stock fan in the SCA drive bay with a quiet slower spinning fan (has a purple label on motor -- can't recall brand at the moment). I also removed the hot-plug chassis fan that would have normally been right behind the SCA drive bay, as there was...

Rumor : Western Digital HD shortage

Likely Theoretical Reasons (in descending order): 1.) Western Digi is coming out with some unannounced model of new high-volume consumer (7200 RPM) hard drives, possibly based on the platters in their new 1.0 TB drive. However, platter production is behind due to bugs. (Remember, their...

    Best movie you've seen

Yes, it's Jack. But, he says, "Here's Johnny!" (i.e. -- The Johnny Carson Show) as he's smashing through the locked door just before this iconic photo is taken. As the mayhem spreads, Jack N's character begins spouting off other famous television phrases as well. I never saw the whole movie...
