    [INFORMAL TEST] Hansol H711s

Just as a side note, Hansol has a nice return policy. They will replace the monitor for 1 burned out pixel. For the first year, they'll reimburse shipping charges too, and they have a couple service centers within a couple hours of me. I've also researching Hyundai ImageQuest LCD monitors...

    [INFORMAL TEST] Hansol H711s

No, it doesn't have the 500:1 contrast ratio of newer LCD displays. But then again, those new generation items don't compare to OLED. The customer is cramped for space and presently has a 5 year old Compaq branded CRT. All he does is office work for his business and yes, he does like the wow...

    [INFORMAL TEST] Hansol H711s

I just hooked up a Hansol H711s LCD display. As usual, I still prefer CRTs for image quality. But, using this 17" Hansol LCD at 1280x1024 is nice. All of the text is crisp and clean as expected. Comparing this with some Sony variants, I think it is just as good. The image quality improves...

3Com embedded NIC - is it any good?

I would also suspect autosensing of port speeds or Albatron's implementation of the 3COM chipset is not very good. I've seen this before on integrated LANs.

    Worry Free Booting in Minutes!

It must be that metal plate in my head that clicks on the laugh module in my brain when I see that picture. The mug has the Windows logo and a computer power button on it. To some, that is a disastorous combination, since Windows (by some standards) is not a reliable operating system. So, you...

c't Heise has a great picture depicting the benefits of Linux. Regardless if you are a Linux fan or not, the idea for the illustration is great, in my opinion. An 800x600 version of the image can be found here, other sizes can be found found here. Here is a small version: On the bag it...

    My cats hate books

:) The 2-million dollar salute. It would be hard getting her paw to contort those fingers or claws just right. Plus they're very small, not as noticable as Tea's. I can see why peeing would be much easier and much more memorable.

    Any Asus A7N266-VM tips?

Video drivers should be removed. You are using both DIMM slots, correct? Subsequently, this will only improve video performance. Asus doesn't list the 220D chipset as supporting TwinBank memory, only the 420 and 415.

help me decide which case to get

For me, the biggest advantage of the Addtronics W8500 case is the amount of space inside. It will support full-size AT, ATX, and WTX boards - with room to spare. There is room for a lot of 80-mm and 92-mm fans. There are 5 external 5.25" drive bays, 5 internal 3.6" drive bays, and 1 external...

Microsoft wheel mouse - works for me like a champ. I've used them so long they're like an extension of my hand. The price is good and I've never had one not work or conflict with another device with Windows (I'm not sure about our Warped friend, but I hope that it works with his OS too).

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

Interesting observation. From the information that I received, WD had this drive on their roadmap at the beginning of 2002. That is much longer then their other products stay on their roadmap before release.

Are WD JB drives 60GB/platter yet?

I'm glad it finally worked Blake.
  32. Buck

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

It will only come in the SATA flavor. The connector end has a SATA power connector, SATA data connector, jumper block (which is of no use and doesn't do anything), and a molex power connector.

These nice size enclosures might go well with Shuttle's new mATX nForce2 board (not that I'd buy Shuttle, but the concept is nice).
  34. Buck

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

They're on my pricelist and readily available at the moment. But I'm not overly excited about the drive. I would need to get a SATA controller card too. By the way, who says the drives don't do Command Queueing?

MS admits XP SP1 sucks hard

Although this is a possibility (remember, it depends on the software that you are running), SP1 fixes a lot of issues related to USB 2.0, 1394, and as I mentioned in another thread, 48-bit LBA support, amongst other things.

Are WD JB drives 60GB/platter yet?

Sorry if this sounds elementary Blake, but I must suggest: Connect the drive to the Primary Master connector on the 440BX as you've already tried. Make sure it is the only device on the data cable, and make sure that there are no jumper shunts being used to jumper the drive. Boot to the Data...

Are WD JB drives 60GB/platter yet?

Just as a side note, WD does have 80 GB per platter JB drives out. Presently they can be found as either a WD400JB or WD800JB.

Are WD JB drives 60GB/platter yet?

Blake, what version of Data Lifeguard Tools are you using and was this tried through the EIDE 0 or 1 connectors on the motherboard?
  42. Buck

Are WD JB drives 60GB/platter yet?

If you have a WD1800JB or WD2000JB, then it is from a 60 GB per platter family (66 GB for the 2000).

    Intel App. Accelerator

You are not wrong Blakerman. With SP1 you'll get the full capacity of the drive. Isn't it cool that you can own a 440BX board running Windows 98 and get it to use a 200GB drive?
  45. Buck

    Intel App. Accelerator

Which Intel chipset natively supports 48-bit LBA?
  46. Buck

    Intel App. Accelerator

If you need the 48-bit support, it is worth using the Application Accelerator versus purchasing an adapter card. Other then that feature, I have no opinion on the upgrade from Intel.
  47. Buck

    Intel App. Accelerator

Oh yeah, and if you want 48-bit LBA support under Windows XP, you'll need to install SP1. That way you'll have the appropriate combination of hardware and software support with an Intel Chipset/Windows XP duo.
  48. Buck

    Intel App. Accelerator

It is not "just" an IDE driver. Besides the few performance enhancements that are claimed by Intel, the most important feature for me is that it allows the Intel motherboard to support 48-bit LBA.
