My seagate is one of the newer old 7200 rpm drives. It's around 50 MB/sec in the laptop, and, with a clean install is ok, but still not nearly as fast as the SSD. Right now, they are the only game in town, or China I should say, and, I better just stick with what I've got, and not make the USPS...

Well, I pulled it, but the pins are closer together then the IDE stuff on my desktops, and won't fit. Checked the model Number: KSD PA25.1-032MJ, and it's the same as the one in Stinkers link.

Got the KingSpec SSD Professional, PATA, thanks to Stinker's suggestion. Installed XP, on Panasonic CF-51 no problems. ATTO scores are really low, around 31 mb/sec, vs. 45 seconds for the 7200 rpm seagate it replaced. Boots to login in 21 seconds, vs about 35 seconds for clean install on 7200...

IE 5 runs around 110 MB of ram, but, won't properly render a number of sites I'm using for testing.

Been screwing around with Opera 10.5, latest version. On 2000 SP4, it goes right to the limit, or over, of 256 MB of ram. Firefox runs around 170 MB of ram.

Also, exactly how slow are these boxes? I just reduced the VM Ware setting to 256 MB of ram. It seems a bit slower, using Firefox 3.63, but not horrible.

Can you clean, reformat, and reinstall? Go through and Nlite em. I'm not real convinced 2000 can't run on 256 mb of ram, with a decent hard drive.

You should be able to scrounge around and find some used ram on ebay for not too much money. What about a hard drive upgrade? Seems to me if you don't have enough ram, it's going to be hitting the hard drive constantly in VM. If so, I suspect one could easily double or triple both access time...
