I had a watercooled 2.4gHz Pentium 4 (Northwood) that was OC'd to 3.0gHz go bad. It was very well cooled (obviously) and I didn't have the vcore cranked up anywhere near the levels that were reported to cause Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome. I'm not sure anymore, but I don't think it even made...

Usually their OC's are pretty mild though, like from 600mHz to 650mHz. They're not taking a 300mHz part and running it at 600mHz.

If I recall correctly mine (slot 1) would do a little over 450 with reasonable cooling.

I got the Spyder3 Elite today. I tried it out my laptop. It seems to work well.

You can pre-order the Acer now. You can get any of the three colors for $405 from J&R after 10% bing.com cashback. My wild guess is that I would expect it by the end of the month. To bad it comes with Vista Premium Home. Though I guess that makes it eligible for a free Windows 7 upgrade.

The MSRP on the Acer in the US is $499. Dell has an 11.6" Inspiron Z series coming soon, but no pricing is known.

I'd wait for the CULV based 11.6 machines. They have very low power consumption Core 2 solo (5.5W) or Core 2 Duo (10W) processors with the much better GMA4500MHD chipset. They sacrifice a little battery life for a much more powerful and usable machine.

I currently have no calibration gear. AFAIK, It's like the rest of the calibration tools and applies profiles at the video card level. The Spyders seemed a better bargain than the EyeOne products.

I only saw them available from overseas ebay sellers, though admittedly I was only browsing at the lowest price + shipping end of the listings.

Well, it won't turn on with a fully charged battery and the AC adapter unplugged, so I doubt that's the cause.

Wait, no that guy decided he could help me after all. After a bunch of question they're sending a new motherboard out to the local on site people to fix it. Finally! It seems the system is shorted out since the light on the power adapter goes out as soon as I plug it into the notebook.

Has anyone ever tried one of these 3rd party timer remotes from ebay? I have a genuine Canon TC-80N3 remote that works great with my 10D and EOS-3, but I want similar functionality for my Rebel XSi and Elan IIe / Elan 7N. To the best of my knowledge Canon doesn't make a timer / intervalometer...

So I finally got a hold of someone and of course they were in the wrong division and couldn't help me. They transferred me to another line where I'm now on hold. Dell's phone system is completely hosed. Remind me to never buy another Dell.

Ok, so I did an online chat, and got a phone number, but the menu system for the phone doesn't work. You press the option for support and get sales instead. Ok, and I found out this EPP system is supported by the Large Business / Enterprise division. ARGH!!!

So now I'm in Dell support hell. Their website won't give me the phone number to call for my notebook because their stupid website doesn't have my Express Service Code. It won't let me enter it manually, and insists on using their web applet, which of course can't find it because the machine...

I don't think we're talking about the same thing. I was talking about using Diskpart to align the partition with the sectors of the drive. It can be used under Windows.
