SSDs - State of the Product?

Keep in mind your odds of getting any OCZ rebate is only slightly improved by actually sending in the rebate. First, they will deny it with a blatant lie about your submission. Then, you can call and yell at them with your photocopies in hand. After enough poking and prodding they will...

OCZ 550W and 650W 80+ silver certified PSUs

Just don't fall into any Rebate traps from OCZ. They will attempt to screw you over on any rebate submission by straight up lying to you about what you sent in.

    Netbook for the wife

What card slot are you referring to? It has a card reader in it (for SD, MMC, xD, & Memory Stick / Pro). The HD isn't too hard to swap out if you're careful.
  17. S

    Netbook for the wife

That's because it doesn't have it. You can get a tiny bluetooth dongle if you really need it.
  18. S

    Netbook for the wife

Well, they used to be, now it's basically a marketing brand. The SU2300 is a real C2D with some L2 cache disabled.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Here's a perfect example: You gain a lot with even a single SSD (because of a the lower access time). You don't gain a lot by going RAID vs a single drive (because STR isn't nearly as important).
  20. S

    Netbook for the wife

The SU2300 is dual core. :smack:
  21. S

SSDs - State of the Product?

So it's snappy, but the STR is slow. Then I guess STR doesn't matter very much then does it?
  22. S

    Netbook for the wife

Not entirely sure. Most of them seem to have disappeared. Frankly, if it was a one time use, I'd get the AS1410 with the SU2300. It's $200 cheaper and you're not likely to miss the extra L2 cache or the 100MHz.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

I don't see how that one is very different from the 707. I'm eyeballing the Integra DHC-80.1 for my basement HT (should I ever actually start building it).

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

That's pretty inexpensive for the feature set. I would have gone further up the model line-up myself though. I typically go for the ~$1k receiver.

Sorry to hear about your father. I don't have a problem with the new machines. I have a problem with the complete and utter suspension of reality that the TSA and the Federal Gov't operates under. Every time there's a failed terrorist attack they make traveling more inconvenient for everyone...

:bstd: I'm not sure what planet you're living on. 100Mbps is good for maybe 9MB/sec. While it's faster than wireless it most certainly is the bottleneck.
