SSDs - State of the Product?

Well, the makers of it sure tell you it's better. Just like laundry detergent, it's always improving. :bstd:

    Running cat 6 cable

    1) You don't need any sort of box for low voltage cabling. You can buy an old work plastic ring if you want. I just cut holes in the drywall with a dremel (using a template) that were large enough to clear a 6 keystone wall plate, but small enough so there was still a decent amount of drywall...

What's the verdict on Windows 7?

Someone fraudulently charged a Technet sub to my credit card. Maybe they were trying to get Office 2010. :p

Most flash drive makers have been targeting cheap over performance because as it turns out most people aren't willing to pay for performance.

    Running cat 6 cable

I did not run quad shield. I'm sure it's slightly better but because none of my wiring is used for satellite I decided RG-6 was good enough for OTA or Cable TV since RG-59 is what is typically used there. Also when I bought my first roll of cable the RG-6 was really cheap and on special at...

DIY. 4 sealed subs, each with 2 of these. It's 200A service. You can put as many circuits on your service as you want as long as you have a breaker for the total. Older installs don't have a master breaker, so they have some different requirements.

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

Just make sure you put a smoke detector / fire alarm in there that's tied to the other in your house so you don't sleep yourself to death in a fire because you couldn't hear it going off.

    Running cat 6 cable

They're called keystones. :p If you're going to go to the trouble to pull one cable you might as well pull at least 2. I ran 2 CAT6 to almost every room in my house except a few that got more than 2. The only rooms that didn't get CAT6 runs were the Dining Room and the bathrooms. 3 bedrooms...

    Running cat 6 cable

It's not exactly plastic pipe. You want schedule 40 gray PVC conduit. However, if you're running only low voltage cabling you can use the white stuff since there are basically no code requirements for low voltage conduit because low voltage wiring doesn't need conduit. I wouldn't advise using...

    Running cat 6 cable

I ran RG-6 in the same conduit as CAT6 and haven't had any issues. I don't foresee a problem. Also, keep in mind it's a code violation to run 120V and low voltage cabling together in a conduit (regardless of it being a bad idea from a signal integrity side).
  13. S

    Running cat 6 cable

Yes I have. I had a PVC conduit run from the basement to the attic when I bought the house to facilitate running CAT6 + RG-6 into the 2nd floor rooms later. Without a conduit you need to cut a hole in the wall on the 2nd floor and get a long flexible bit and the guide for the bit so you can...

    Running cat 6 cable

Oh no you can't. Plenum rated cable is not to be use HVAC duct work. Those are not plenums. It may be OK to run plenum rated cable in cold air returns though you'd have to check with the local community on the code.

Well, as long as he knows better than to actually buy anything there from the person who will likely give him bad information that might not be a bad strategy. I still don't see how he's going to get good performance from a projector with all that ambient light, but what do I know?

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

I would suggest making the seams part of the design. I think you'll discover that you can't get a 13' wide piece of fabric to hang nicely.

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

I suspect you could get the result you're really after with 1" of compressed fiberglass product covered with an acoustically transparent fabric. Even most home theater enthusiasts (who build pretty dead) rooms don't cover all the walls with compressed fiberglass. Usually just the side and back...

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

Well, they've already tested that. link and link My ceiling will use clips + channel + 2 layers of 5/8" drywall + GG. That's the best I can do since I can't make a stagger joist ceiling due to the steel beam that's in the way. Green Glue makes a noticeable improvement in reducing low...

    Conversion-to-digital photo service

FWIW, keep in mind they are sending your pictures to India to be scanned on standard Nikon slide / negative scanners. So, if you have a lot of fond memory on your negatives or slides, I wouldn't send them all at once. I'd suggest something more like every other slide and two orders. Another...

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

Well, to be blunt, I don't think you have the slightest clue of what you're doing and you haven't done the necessary research before diving in. 1) Expanding foam insulation is bad for sound isolation. 2) You definitely need to close the wall with drywall. Two layers of 5/8" drywall with...

    Where to buy QuietZone Solserene

Why? :erm: Fiberglass is fiberglass when put in a wall assembly for noise reduction purposes. This is hashed over time and time again on AVSforum in the Dedicated Theater Design & Construction section. Even Owens Corning doesn't make any claims that it's better than any other insulation for...

    Audio Equipment

timwhit pretty much got it right. Putting a speaker inside another opening leads to drastic changes in the baffle response since you get reflections from the cabinetry if the cabinetry extends past the front face of the speaker. A shelf wouldn't necessarily be too bad assuming the shelf was...

Well, the Parts-Express cable arrived today and I got the runs in. It's a bit different than the Monoprice cable. The Monoprice cable has a loose white jacket that the inner conductors can move around in some. The Parts-Express cable is perfectly round and rubber-like with the red and black...
