I don't have a land line. As I'm sure you're aware Caller ID is standard fare for cell phones. If I had a land line, I certainly wouldn't pay extra for caller ID.

Transcoding what to what? The few times I'm messed with that sort of stuff I use AVIsynth with an appropriate codec to read the source.

Well, the Lenovo T410 is new / non legacy model and has a 16:10 14" screen. I'm waiting for Lenovo to run a promo code that applies to them. That should get it just within his budget. Unfortunately the current code only give 20% off Lenovo ThinkPad X, W, and Tablet Series Laptops. :(

I think the wear leveling algorithm employed by the card may foil attempts to actually clear all the flash cells in it to 0.

They definitely spin down and park the heads if you use the Hotswap! utility to "eject" them. It will give you a popup in the system tray when it's safe to eject the drive.

I haven't had any issues with the Hotswap utility not being able to stop eSATA drives. What problem did you encounter?

That's not gonna happen unless they end up with some super duper high resolution. With a little more clever GUI manipulation you wouldn't need to drive them at any resolution other than the native. You can render fonts and graphics at any pixel size you want, so there's really no reason to...

On a somewhat related note, why aren't high resolution screens widely offered anymore? Both of my Dell's have 15.4" 1680x1050 screens. When I bought the older one the 1920x1200 15.4" screen was even an option. Now you're lucky to get a 1366x768 screen at 15.6".

That has a 16:9 screen. My Dad only wants a 16:10 screen in a 14" system. I'm exactly not sure I understand his reasoning, but that's his preference.

And I completely agree with you! Back in the day people shopped every day because they didn't have a fridge to put the food in so bought fresh food & ate it that day or it went bad. Our standard of living has improved slightly since then.

Somewhere in between but closer to Fry's than CompUSA. Their sales are pretty good. I got a Q6600 there for $199 back when they were still ~$300 everywhere else. They still run similar sales on other components.

Flash memory got real cheap. That's what happened. However, iPod's got up to 160GB though. If they still made an iPod with dual platter drives we'd have a 320GB model. Maybe we'll get one last larger model before they phase out their iPod Classic HD based model.

They're decent for a B&M PC store. I don't know that I'd take a long drive to get to one though.
