    Windows 8

Who wants to use Windows on a tablet? Isn't there a future with Andros? Likewise the touchscreen is awful for most desktop use.

How long will Win 7 be available for purchase? I'm not so happy with it's extra layer of crap that slows me down, but it should usable for the rest of my life.

To me an upgrade is a like for like or like for similar, so it would have to be at least an upgrade for a 5D or perhaps older 1Ds series.

No, it's not an upgrade for the 7D at all.

From what I gather online it is not really that the camera is bad, but that it is only an incremental upgrade and people expect more in 2012. Most consumers will complain and buy whatever product is out there is anyway unles it is really awful. The jpeg examples look heavily processed to me. I...

    dSLR thread

Some people are extremely disappointed, but most are just moderately disappointed. I would buy one, but currently have no use for a new, not quite pro build grade, camera with only 1MP more than my fleet of 1Ds IIIs. Canon as a company is slipping significantly and fired the CEO recently.

No, but I'm not sure how much it would be improved. Finally got the D7000 back after two months of parts delay. The AF seems to be within range, but every lens needs testing and most need some ± compensation. I hope it will finally see some real use next month. There is still no word on...

    question Which Tablets

OK, I can live without the battery replacement, though I am concerned about it dying right after the warranty expires. I'm still not sure if the overall cost is worthwhile. It looks like the data plan is $35/mo.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I would not trust a Samsung drive with my apps though.

So how much does the battery replacement cost?

Wow, it looks like the Chinese spider bot is really sucking all the juice out of SF. I wonder if that affects the performance.

    x10 stuff

I've been using the X10 and store brands of the same for over 20 years. There are two main drawbacks. The receiver units tend to fail over time (anywhere from 1-10 years) and they are very sensitive to line noise. Failures of the former type are worse with partly fluorescent or electronic...

    question Which Tablets

What do you mean, the back does not come off for swapping the battery? :skepo: I thought that only Apple did not want the users to change batteries. :(

SSDs - State of the Product?

Well, it's for me. :) I was thinking that beyond 240Gb there would not be any increase in performance or it would be negligible. I don't need more than 80GB of storage space, even with Win 7.

    Which one, the 240GB 520?

    question Which Tablets

That is a good point. I just can't decide whether to buy a tablet now or wait a couple of months. I'd like a smallish one and also a larger one for photos. Is there any chance we will see >HD resolution?

    Mobile email

Yeah, the latter bother me. But I really have no interest in learning anything complicated now. With all the apps today and supposed technology, there should be a damned checkbox for keeping the outgoing e-mail on the server. The whole point is to have a permanent record of all e-mails...

8mm Film transfer to digital - any recommendations?

I have not used one in many years. Back in the 90s days you would take the film reels to a camera store for that. The home projection/recording method suffers from synch issues; super 8 film is 18FPS for example. The home copy units are cheap if you can find a used one on eBay for example...

    Companies that have burnt...

On my work Dell it is on the side and sometimes slides when inserted/removed from a slip case. But seriously, people should try both positions before calling tech support. Maybe you should consider adding a sticker on the top with a list of simple things to check before calling for support.
