WASAPI should bypass the Windows volume controls completely. It also locks the audio device exclusively so nothing else can use it. You should have the volume in Foobar up all the way and use the volume knob on your headphone amp.

How to deal with wind chill?

I expected nothing less from you than insults since you can't engage me on the facts. It doesn't matter if you think global warm is real or not. It doesn't matter if you believe that the earth is warming and it's caused by humans or not caused by humans. When you've got a group of people...

How to deal with wind chill?

Oh sure, that's what they say now. However, less than 10 years ago there were stories bemoaning the fact that kids in the future wouldn't know what snow was, etc, etc... Now after it turns out they were wrong they've changed their tune and claim any extreme or severe weather is proof of global...

So as it turns out AAC is a vastly superior codec to MP3. Using the Quicktime encoder in TVBR mode via qtaacenc with command line options of --tvbr 60 --highest generates files with an average bitrate of ~128kbit/sec that are completely transparent to my ears (so far?) vs the original FLAC...

Listen to the native French speaker. He has good advice. FWIW, I don't put stock in break in. I also have no idea why you can't break them in (if it really changes anything) by playing them off your head. The likely truth is that "break in" is really listener adaptation. Listen to even a...

3 years is just too long for WD

I didn't say mechanical drives weren't relevant today. I think the warranty isn't particularly relevant. My experience with modern drives is that they will either last nearly forever or die quickly. So, you buy a few spare for your RAID setup and don't worry about the warranty not being 5...

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

The A5 is a dual core ARM Cortex-A9 SOC just like the rest of the contemporary phone SOC's. If you were comparing it to a Tegra 2 it would have a leg up since Nvidia for some reason decided to omit the NEON SIMD engine from the Tegra 2.

    question Clone a system drive

I went through this before in a thread somewhere here. You take the unaligned drive and use gparted to move the start and end of the partition slightly by like 1MB. It aligns to 1MiB boundaries by default now. Clonezilla maintains partition alignment so the target SSD will have the same...

    question Clone a system drive

I think you will need to resize the partition with gparted first, then clone. If I recall correctly Clonezilla will not let you shrink a partition during restoration / cloning.

It means driving them with + and - voltage not with + and a common ground. Normal headphone wiring only has 3 pins which means the left and right side share a common signal (ground). That means you have only one wire per channel that changes voltage relative to ground. When you rewire to...

I guess I should qualify my answer slightly. You can get sound out of them with just about anything. However, you can't get close to unlocking their potential. With most devices you will have the volume pushed almost all the way up to get a comfortable listening volume. That doesn't leave...

Poorly. They're too inefficient. You wouldn't be able to drive them to an adequate volume. Only you and your ears can answer that. There is always a point of diminishing returns. That point isn't the same for everyone. For $350 you should be doing better than HD595's. Amazon has run the...

Even Better PC Audio v. empty your wallet

Why not? It's pretty simple soldering. You cut off about 1' off the end and leave the 1/8" stereo plug on it. On the headphone side you put one of these 4 pin XLR connectors on the cut end. Then you put this XLR female connector on the cut end with the 1/8" plug. This way you can get back...
