I'm not 100% sure on how many panes of glass I will do. I'm not decided on the windshield yet, but probably have on all the other windows & sunroof. In terms of cost... I haven't gotten a quote yet, but based on what I've read online it'll probably be in the $500-750 range.
A sunroof is something I would pay extra for if it was optional. I did on my Maxima. It just happens to be that it's standard in the S4. I feel I didn't utilize it all that much on the Maxima. Not this time!
Only when I'm satisfied that I have thoroughly researched something. :p
78% transmissive / but it blocks 43% of total solar energy. That's on par with about 15% transmissive tint (for the cheap non-ceramic stuff).
If you've got a moonroof you've already paid for it so why not make an adjustment...
I'm not sure if the shop I found will tint a sunroof. I haven't contacted them to confirm yet. For whatever reason sunroof tinting has near urban legend status. The story is that they will crack if you tint them. They're tempered glass like all the other windows in their car (excluding the...
I finally found a local, well regarded tint shop that offer Llumar films (tint). This was surprisingly not a simple task. It took some clever use of Google. Anyhow, this shop even advertizes the Blue AIR 80 I'm after on their website. I'm still undecided on tinting the front windshield, but...
In your example that's thieves who really wanted the wheels and probably profiled him and came prepared. That's not someone driving up and down the street looking for an opportunity to score a set of wheels. Frankly, I don't think anyone is going to be that dedicated just to steal a set of 18"...
With the McGard Ultra SL wheel locks if they don't have the key they're not going to be stealing your wheels off the car while it's in your driveway with out attracting TONS of attention and taking a LOT of time. Of course you correctly point out that they know the key is most likely in the car...
They're probably also a step beyond what I need. I have a garage that I park in at night and I generally don't go to shady areas so I probably don't need something more than a general deterrent. I do find it interesting that the more effective wheels locks aren't sold in the US though.
I found what appears to be an even better wheel lock design from McGard. The McGard Ultra SL. It has a rotating collar/ring on the outside to prevent the typical hammer on a socket or counterthreaded easy out sort of attack. Unfortunately they aren't sold in the US, but I did find a seller on...
It turns out you get lug bolts and hubcentric rings even if you buy only only wheels (no tires) from Tire Rack. Tire Rack is being a little cagey though. They want to measure a 2013 first or they can't guarantee the fitment and won't take them back if they don't fit. They say this should...
I guess. I have a few questions though. About lug bolts (mainly length) and hubcentric rings. I'm also hoping to get rid of the Forgestar wheels first.
I'm trying to sort out why TireRack says the 18x8 ET35 is a tight fit (and not offered) but other (non Raijin) ET35 and even ET32 18x8 wheels are offered for the B8 S4. Otherwise I can get the 18x8.5 ET42, but I think the 18x8 ET35 should be slightly lighter and it will position the rubber...
Yeah, I like the color shifting nature. I found the pictures by using the Google machine and the German name for the paint (Estorilblau Kristalleffekt).
Well, within my ability to measure them I got 19.0 lbs.
I should point out that involves my weighing myself on a digital strain gauge bathroom scale while holding one and while not. I got the same weight without the wheel multiple times and the same weight with the wheel multiple times. The...
Beside you couldn't consider them until you know if they die forged or not.
I'm not saying it's impossible they're die-forged + rolled, but they could have written something much clearer if that was the case than the pile crap talking in circles that Matt quoted. I'm having a field day...
Not yet. I expect they're about 19.5lbs maybe a hair less. I'll have to weigh one before I send 'em back. I don't have very good scale though. It'll be a crude measurement.
I think I am going to take my refund and get a set of Enkei Raijin 18x8.5 ET42 wheels in Hyper Silver instead of screwing around with Forgestar wheels.
They're also spin forged like the Forgestar wheels. A little heavier at 21.1lbs, but cheaper.
You didn't see them in person. The fact is you can get a basically flawless finish on a $700 set of wheels, but they're trying to claim this is normal for a $1700 set of wheels. It is absurd. If this is really what a customer should expect, that information should be provided to customers up...
So, my two options were a full refund or they'd give me $200 back (the cost of the premium finish). I chose the refund. Apparently the wheels can't be refinished due to structural concerns about thermal cycling them in the oven during powder coating. I guess three times is the limit.
They're...
I'm going to have to disagree with you on that front. The wheels are too bad to use IMHO. I wouldn't use them on my S4 if you gave them to me for free.
So, apparently Forgestar says this is "normal" for the 3 stage Titanium finish and they're discontinuing it due to recent complaints. My ModBargains sales person wants to discuss my options with me on the phone.
I notified my salesperson at ModBargains and I'm not thrilled with his/their response so far. He asked for pictures so I sent him some of one of the wheels. Then he asked for pictures of the other wheels before providing them to Forgestar. So, I send him pictures of the other three. Maybe I'm...
I hope somebody steps up. Worst case I guess I will get them media blasted and refinished locally.
I'm not opposed to a little supercharger whine myself. It's a little disappointing they went to such efforts to conceal it. I might get an intake after a while. This seems like a good...
I didn't either until this morning.
The cars arrive through different ports depending on where they're going. Our cars will not come through a port in California.
I typically see a B8 S4 on the road maybe every few weeks. Someone in my neighborhood has a B6 or B7 S4 in the garage. I'm not...
So I sent ModBargains a note complaining about the finish of the Forgestar wheels. The asked for pictures so they could send them to Forgestar. I provided 10 photos of one wheel. ModBargains then asked for pictures of the other three wheels. So, I took pictures of the other three and...
Glad you got that sorted out.
FWIW, my sales guy tells me they should have their first demo S4 in 2 weeks. I guess the folks in Cali are a little ahead of the game.
Yes, Audi builds some cars in reasonable "safe" configs and just sends them on to the dealers. Reportedly each dealer will get 1-3 cars. The first ordered cars are 4-6 weeks out depending on the geographic location of the dealer (the variance due mostly to shipping details).
It looks like this was all wrong. S4s have hit dealer lots, so they're not being embargo'd or held anywhere.
In other news it looks like the soundaktor is confirmed on the 2013 S4. I don't see a big problem with it, but I'm sure it will be polarizing either way.
