The Birth of a sales pitch

I had more success with GDivX 1.9.9.2 than with DivX 5.03. Lower CPU util. %, so crashed less often (like in "didn't crashed at all") on an humble Athlon classic. I'm just writing this in case you would like to try.

Was the Net under attack this late afternoon?

Guys, my slowdown occured on the 22nd : yesterday. Today, although I haven't been on the web all the afternoon, I haven't had any trouble with my connection.

    K-meleon : something's missing...like the bookmarks

I found out what's the problem. I have "favorites", but only with the plain 0.7 version. The SP1 makes them vanish. There are no un-tickled option to enable them once the SP1 for 0.7 is installed. Too bad. Adios K-meleon.

    K-meleon : something's missing...like the bookmarks

I installed K-meleon 0.7 and the SP1 for 0.7 this morning. Everything's fine with this little browser, except for one thing : I don't see any place where I can manage or even see bookmarks. Apparently, there ARE no bookmarks in K-meleon. Or am I just blind? During the installation process...

    RedHat 8.0.94 (or 8.1 beta3) impressions

The bunch of retarded basta...! Galeon 1.2.7 instead of at least 1.2.8 or 1.3.2. I think I'm better of with Mozilla under that distro. Upgrading Galeon is too much of a pain.

    RedHat 8.0.94 (or 8.1 beta3) impressions

I downloaded and install this thing this evening. I was sure it would be inferior to Mandrake 9.1 RC1, since most of the packages weren't as up-to-date as in the blue Linux distro. I've not been using it for very long, but I can say that so far, I've not been disapointed. First, fonts are way...

Was the Net under attack this late afternoon?

I've had great difficulties to reach most web sites around 16h00 ET, although now everything's just fine. Last time it happened, it was because of Slammer. Did the web suffered from another DoS attack today? Or is it just the tempest that's now raging outside in Québec that's causing this...

    Windows .Net Server?

Forget my previous question. I just registered. If the performances of SCSI devices is better and if I can disable enough of the bloated services to make it bearably fast, .Net won't be that bad on only one of my boxes. There remains the issue of the shitty PA, which still bugs me quite a bit.

    Windows .Net Server?

Can't access SR right now. Where can I get that .Net special edition yet(either Enterprise or Standard)? I have a SCSI rig that's just waiting for an OS that can handle its drives properly. Even Win2K doesn't, at least not for the small files transfers. It feels slow too. SP3 and all the...

    FAH? or not?

It is a known problem with the client for Linux. There seems to be an incompatibility between the client and glibc 2.3.1. See that thread. The client ran fine when I had Mandrake 9 beta 3, but it gives me the same "segmentation fault" that you get since I upgraded to Mandrake 9 RC1.

[NEWS] Roxio Easy CD Creator V6.0

I AM NOT A CANADIAN! (and therefore not a canuck either...or a moose) Putting Kazaa with all its spywares on my PCs is against my religion. Every damn broken computer I'm asked to repair has that POS software on it and it's more often than not the cause of the problem(s). I say no to Kazaa.

    PC3000 Memory

From what I read, the nForce2 chipset is faster with DDR333 than with DDR400 if you run you FSB and memory bus sync, so I won't bother with PC3200 on that platform. Apparently, the chipset automatically set back to less agressive timings when the FSB runs above 166MHz DDR.

Thanks mister Nut. I'm pretty much sold to Nero though, especially since it comes bundled with the main CD writer brand I sell. I would be curious to compare it to Stomp's software, but I don't have 40U$ to spend on it when I get Nero for free.

I would go for a Xeon 2.4GHz, even if it's 100$ more, so when you'll buy him a twin brother, the overall system (dual 2.4GHz Xeon instead of dual Xeon 2.0GHz) would be noticeably faster...and would beat the one of Bill ;-) Would I be sure that Dell uses Cheetah 15K3, I would choose to go with...

What is a good Basic Video Card

    Windows .Net Server?

Well, on a dual Xeon 2.2GHz, it's quite difficult to feel a difference between two OSes, given that you have plenty of free juice before you'll notice the bloat of your softwares. I'm pretty sure Solaris would fly on this box too, even though it's hardly a symbol of lightness.

AFAIK, there's no Pro or non-Pro version of the 9100. It's just sold under a 64MB or a 128MB configuration, with the memory of the 64MB version clocked 30MHz higher than the one on the 128MB version. The 9100 "Pro" James saw was probably only a typo, done by someone thinking too hard to the...

The Radeon 9100 that Fushigi said to cost 82$ a few week ago is a far better card than any GeFarce 4MX, AGP 8x or not. The Radeon 9100 is a renamed 8500 with a few additional features. Although I haven't seen any 9100-based card sold under the ATI brand name, I know Sapphire makes one...
