    An odd web-programming challenge...

Handy, you are handy.....;) That works very well. Thank you! The application is a simple gift registry for my sister's wedding. The problem with all the ones that are currently available are twofold: 1. They requre significant computer knowledge to function properly. For many the process of...

    An odd web-programming challenge...

This seems fine for our application, the total expected load is <2000 hits spread out randomly over a 6-10 month period. I think the likelyhood of someone clicking at the exact same time is fairly unlikely. In the (slightly more likely) event that someone attemps to click on an item after it...

    An odd web-programming challenge...

Here is what I need to create: A simple web page with a list of items (30-50) 1. When you click on an item, it is removed from that page and added to another page. 2. When you click on an item on the second page it is removed from that page and added to the first. 3. Setup can be complicated...

That's where I'm at....I tried Slackware 9.1 upon it's release, and it lasted 2 days longer than RH 8.0 (the prevoius attempt that lasted 3 days). About lapping...

IMO, 600 will give you a better surface than that of the chip anyway. clearly this is "good enough" and nothing thermal paste won't be able to handle. If you're looking for good operation with a dry-fit...get them both to 1600+ (even at this, it will only be touching at the ridges, but there...

    Does anyone remember when ...

Actually, yes. I tried, and no it doesn't work. Rather, it would work...if you had a 2k3 DC on the domain somewhere. But it seems people hold windows and linux to different standards. In windows, everything is expected to work with everything. Linux people seem to be perfectly OK with fairly...

Bang for the buck in AMD's 64-bit CPUs

Indeed, I provide the same support. And considering I also handle all software installations and all software licencing, AND all user training...they have themselves a one-stop shop for everything. And I have agreements in place with other local contractors to "cover" for each other in bad times...

LOL, my dad had some important clients fly down for a meeting. They arrived 35 minutes before the Loma Prieta Quake (7.4, the one that messed with the World Series). 2 Hours later they were on a plane out of here, and never came back. Wimps.

I just spec'd a Dell dual XEON 3.06 w/2GB RAM and 2x36GB 10k drives.... $4,600+, no OS...just the box. I agree that for many people Dell's support makes it worthwhile...but I sure ain't one of 'em...

Bang for the buck in AMD's 64-bit CPUs

Yup, that's where Dell makes their money. They don't care about selling thousands of low-end/older designs at break-even or lower, so long as it wins them customers for the high-end/server market.

Bang for the buck in AMD's 64-bit CPUs

Yeah, I know the 64-bit aspect of it is pretty useless at this point (as was a 386's 32-bit capability) for these kinds of tasks. But from what I've seen, it's pretty darn fast @ 32-bit as well. And I do enjoy playing :D Thanks I'll have to check that out.

The first system I ever got to play on regularly was a 386/33...It was the one computer in an office of 12 accountants, and all it did was print form letters... I'd imagine all the work those 12 were doing is being done by one guy with a P90 right now.....
