I'm trying to best secure my gaming systems from happy hacking hands. The things I'd like to do: Disable all the nasty keyboard shortcuts Disable File downloads from IE The "internet options" panel is disabled using my client software, so a setting in there would work. I'd like to offer...

Name that camera gear! (Big pic enclosed)

The body is a 10D with a 1Gb card, the lens is in fact a 100-400, and we were taking pictures of a motherbord in low light from ~5' away. I am not a camera guy (as you can tell from the pic above) but some of the results were quite impressive. I'll be trying to post more pics when I get the...

Best speaker set for PC with coax for ~200U$

I'm tempted to bring take some of th audio gear from the other rooms and hook it up to my PC. If I want loud, I can grab the 15" stage speakers and 1500W amp out of the garage. Too bad the baseline hum is louder than comfortable listening volume. I guess I could take a pair of the Bose...

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

You are talking about 2.8Ghz @ $300 each while saying AMD is overpriced? With Opteron 242s going for $225 a piece, I'd say Intel is hurting now more than ever (from a tech/perf standpoint, we all know they're still making $$$).

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

From the benches I've read, they lose about 30% on the second CPU and 60%+ on the quad...due to FSB bus \ memory bandwidth limitations, IIRC. I don't know if this would fix that problem, or make it worse

Yeah, I'll be using it as an archicve of sorts. Who cares if google can read my resume. It's a classic case of TMI; considering the amount of information they will have, mine will be of little interest.

[NEWZ] Mikersoft Proposes Augmenting Flash & Hard Drives

I too think using system memory would be better. Considering they are requiring OS support, the OS could simply stop using the cache when the battery drops too low. Or have a small reserve battery to handle wrting the data back to the drive.

[NEWZ] Intel Going Entirely Dual Core In 2005

Well, dual-core'd CPUs will bring parallel-ism to the masses. This will lead to much more development focus in the muti-threaded area and will help those with multiple-CPU systems take better advantage thereof. That Quad-Opteron board from Tyan is calling my name... :D

    Ghosting/Ghostcasting questions...

The mapping just works better for my rather unusual setup. Every machine has it's own Ghost image, that is only restored to that one machine. Therefore going though the process of setting up and running a different ghostcast session for every machine is more difficult than just letting the...

At first it was going to be a ghost console partition; currently it is a ghostcasting partition. I was trying to set up a drive mapping version; it doesn't even need to have ghost on it, or have anything to do with ghost. So long as it can map to a network share where the ghost images and the...
