    Large RAID arrays

Are you after a full NAS solution? Or something to connect directly to an existing computer? There are quite a few cases that support that many drives, if you want local access.

    Large RAID arrays

I'll second Mark. My array started with 4 750GB drives (2.25TB) and is now 6 750GB drives (3.75TB). The rebuild that does the online storage expansion took 3+ days to add the 6th drive.

    Something Random

"At lest 10-12 times a day" is probably what I would say as well, though I suspect the number is much, much higher. It's the first thing I do when I get up and the last before I go to bed. I check as soon as I get back from somewhere (like, the fridge) and before I leave for somewhere (like, the...

Excellent. Good to see you around, Merc. Red Bull, nasty stuff...especially if you have lost some of your caffeine resistance. Just curious how many people (besides me) checked the site many times throughout the day, hoping someone else would post something that they could read/contribute to? There was that one thread in the computer forum, but Merc said the only thing I could think of saying.

    Lenovo looking to buy Seagate

Seagate 7200.10 Firmware "AAK" significantly worse than other versions. Of course, 4 of mine are AAK with one AAE and one AAD. Doesn't really matter as I'm saturating the bus with the number of drives I have now.

A responsible parent wouldn't be trying to block the content at all. Inform the kid, let them know what is safe and what is right, then let them make decisions. Going on the internet is like going out into the world. It's all there; good and bad, safe and dangerous. Inform the kid before they...

In the world of 1080p programming, I can see where something like this is needed. But it kicking in during MP3 playback is useless, and it doesn't kick in enough when I'm watching HD video...WTF?

    terabyte for 250$

On the page you linked. It's not a full "official" review, just some customer's comments, but for objective things that is usually good enough. Of course, that doesn't mean the one you receive will have Samsung drives, I'm sure they use whatever they can get cheap.

    Acer to buy Gateway

I'm familiar with the sound issues getting a Vista machine to run XP. I haven't run across one I couldn't make work eventually. Usually involving MS' UAA driver and a driver from some other laptop.

    4-bay enclosure

500GB of redundancy connected to a Mac laptop? Sounds like you want a 2-drive external enlcosure that supports firewire. I'd recommend the Buffalo DriveStation Duo 1TB. It ships with 2 500GB drives and has USB and Firewire connections. Keep in mind that since the two drives are storing...

    disk image mac osx4.10

Backups vary based on how important your data is and how much of it you have. The size of a disk image has more to do with the amount of data on the drive than the size of the drive itself. If all you are trying to do is backup data, just copy the files. If you want to be able to restore the...

    4-bay enclosure

4-bay enclosure. Internal? External? SATA? USB? Firewire? Network-attached? The best place to get a quick introduction to RAID is here. RAID-1 (mirroring) is pretty much copy and paste; except that it does it for every file transaction. You don't need to schedule it, or remember to do it...
