    Video card worthiness

Every modern mobo that I know of has a 16x PCIe port. (excluding VIA EPIA) My problem is usually as follows: Build a system for a guy doing quickbooks. One weekend, his family visits, and his grandson brings his favorite computer game. If it doesn't work, you will hear about it.

    Video card worthiness

My thought is that I don't want a computer to fail to run anything older than it is. It doesn't have to run well, or quickly; just successfully install and start at the lowest settings.

    Video card worthiness

For quite some time now, none of my users get on-board video. Dedicated video memory is always a good thing, and having an upgrade path is useful.

    Cool ('green') Car

That is safe enough. I hate that cars today have to weigh 3000+ lbs just for all the safety gear. So many stupid laws have been passed requiring specific design elements, it makes truly efficient cars near impossible. Bumpers that don't take damage below 5mph 20+ Airbags Sensors to prevent...

That was kind of my question. If there are reasons to take less shots besides difficulty or CPU consumption ;) I've been playing with shooting like crazy (17 shots, 1/3 stop apart) and then picking the ones that properly expose specific details, letting the rest over/underexpose into the...

Still playing. I was of the impression that you would want as much range in your exposure levels as there is in the scene to be captured. If that includes a tree in shadow with a sunlit cloud in the background, that will be much more than +/- 2EV. I don't know what the DR is of the 20D, but I've...

HARDWARE: Excellent Removable SATA Drive Bay

I don't have a problem with drives sitting on my desk, or in a drawer. Don't drop them, don't touch them without grounding yourself first, and don't heat them. They aren't magical, common sense is all that is required.

Dual, quad core and winXP pro

Registered RAM is a bummer and the low clock-speed is pretty bad; but none of the boards seem to have any OC capabilities whatsoever. Therefore I find it likely that a heavily OC'd Q6600 (3.2? 3.4?) would likely smoke one of these anyway. 4*3.4=13.6 8*1.8=14.4 Ignoring IPC variations and...

The difference is in the first digit. The 8347 supports 8-way (32 core) systems, where the 2346HE supports 2-way (8 core) systems. That is how they squeeze the money out of the supercomputer market with otherwise standard hardware ;)

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

    Imagine a cluster of these...

At least. I find the the AC is significantly more than the CPU consumption due to efficiency issues. A while back I had a client with a tiny server room (the size of a walk-in closet). As the company grew, 2 full racks of servers went in there. If the AC failed, you were instantly screwed. So...

    Hard Drive cooling question

I have one layer of redundancy. Besides the RAID-5/hotspare at home, I have a friend who keeps an exact copy of my array at his place. I paid for the gear, he pays the power and keeps an eye on it. Sync is via the internet, and he has read-only access to the movies and pron.
