question Junking traditional TV for streaming only

One of the things I like most about torrenting is that it prevents me from burning hour after hour not watching anything in particular. I find a show I like, download all of them, and then watch them over the next months when I feel like them. TVTorrents will even add your favorite shows to a...

question external hdd dock with dual slots and hotswap?

I've never seen IDE ones, but I have several of these. Some here have had reliability problems with them, however.

Computer worm. Is this possible, or fiction?

I wouldn't have to at all if it weren't for DRM. That still sucks.

    Bay Multi Device

They all are some level of crap; particularly the audio connections (front audio connections always suck) and the SD slots. But I've had several that worked for over a year, and they are quite cheap.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Wow. I've never re-benched the things, or kept the original data for comparison. Where does it settle out to?

I'm looking for a good analogy/explanation of horsepower. Torque is easier because it can exist in a static-ish system. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Computer worm. Is this possible, or fiction?

Yes. The question is: If you give 8 recently released titles to someone who has not updated their bluray player in over a year, with they work? And the answer is: maybe. That sucks.

We have a computer hooked to the projector. We have a netflix subscription, combined with Bittorrent for stuff that doesn't air in the US. When we move I will likely get a basic cable subscription along with the data, a decent antenna and a HomerunHD.

Heard an interesting one today, though I don't buy it. That the leaks were intentional by the govt, in order to get the message across to Iran that nobody likes them, and that they better straighten up and fly right.

    Quiet server

At the moment all of my production ESXi machines came with Intel or Broadcom NICs in them, but I'm in the process of building a smaller machine for a smaller company. It will run 3 2003-2008 servers for about a dozen people. Quiet is important. It will be in a P183 chassis and run a 3Ghz...

Repair install, re-did everything above, still broken. Win Update, Activation, even NOD32 update worked this time, but still no Firefox, Chrome, or IE.

Interesting. Their Server Product is also very interesting. Massively reasonable considering the competition.

No doubt. But I like how easy WHS is to set up nightly workstation imaging, and My Movies is awesome.

Windows Home Server / Home Server OS

If they were to simply enable the softRAID capabilities (5, 6, and 10 would be required IMO) I would consider sticking around. More significantly, this means MS has no good answer to the more advanced filesystems out there (ZFS, BtrFS, etc).

Windows Home Server / Home Server OS

Indeed. I'll need to move on to something else as well. Looks like I don't need a server after all, and may just hang my storage off a workstation.

Wait, what? No. Fuck the bad guys. Let them to whatever they want. On 9/11 it was still safer to fly than drive. Terrorists have never done enough damage to justify all the damage our government has done to us.

Sure, trying to identify everyone that might be described as "bad" is tricky. Here is my list of requirements before any kind of action is taken. 1. Wants to do harm to innocent others 2. Wants it badly enough to follow through 2. Has the means to do it 3. Said harm would be more significant...

The number of "bad guys" out there is much, much smaller than those in power would have you believe, though their actions are creating more enemies daily. Their scare tactics are what allow them to make us sacrifice our freedoms and grant them even more power.

The highest any of these docs was rated was secret, with the bulk being merely confidential. In government, people's shopping lists are confidential. If there was an active agent's name in there, someone really messed up.

    Multitouch desk

That is indeed very cool. I would pay considerable amounts of money for that, if there was the software to support it. I think the software development will have to come from the tablets and just get better until we get there.

PC Gaming = World of Suck

CNC:Generals was awesome. But once you've experienced the flexability of full zoom control in Supreme Commander, nothing else is acceptable. Fallout 3 was so good that I won't buy Vegas. I don't have the time to spare. Civ5 can run in the background and have a turn or two an hour.

I think Wikileaks shot that one down first by releasing all the docs to the press in multiple countries well in advance. I would imagine they have a few other domain names on standby as well.

Anyone have a suggestion on a new washing machine?

No self-respecting female will accept the assumption that they do it, but some are nice enough to take care of it anyway. I think my wife just fears the damage to her fragile clothes at my laundering technique (put it all in, wash it, if it doesn't survive, I don't need it).

Sounds like you have it under control. I would run it on top of ESXi, just to make backup and restoration easier. It makes remote admin and troubleshooting easier if that is a consideration.
