I've drive through Vancouver on my way to Alaska before. But that was pre-9/11, so I don't know what has changed since then.

If it will work straight downwind, it will work at any angle. Downwind is the worst-case scenario. The only additional issue is lateral forces working against the mast, but they'll need to deal with that just to overcome the rotor-torque issue anyway.

Very cool. I remember when that first appeared some time ago. The thought in my mind was that the prop operated kind of like a ratchet; locking in the power the wind had already imparted on the craft, allowing it to start with all the power the wind could give from any speed. Eventually, they...

Nope, that is all-in. And gas taxes are pretty high here in CA. $67.25 to fill an Audi A3. Of course, that station only had full-serve, so there is a significant surcharge there as well.

    Idiot

I doubt he knew there were bolts in the box at the time. When I was in China, I purchased a 16GB memory stick for ~$8. This was many years ago, and was the first 16GB stick I had ever seen. Connected it to my laptop right there and tried it out. Of course, it had the same issue as the one...

    USB 3.0 Cases

Interesting design. Seems the botched it by making it just too small for 120mm fans in a normal configuration. It wouldn't have taken much. Also, SPCR screwed up by taking a case designed for upward convective flow and not using a GPU or CPU cooler that was conducive to that design.

    RAM disk

There are a number of tools out there that re-create the RAM disk and re-populate it with files from a folder on another disk. Someone at one point built a PCI card that held some DIMMs and a battery. IIRC, their second version was even bootable.

I believe in reducing energy consumption through technology, but sacrificing comfort is to be avoided. I have special-order windows more efficient than the local guys had ever seen. RAM disk

I was doing RAM drives before SSDs came out. Getting some incredible speed; but capacity was stunningly expensive. I took my system to 24GB and made 12 of it a RAM disk for Photoshop (which at the time didn't have a 64-bit version). Unless you are trying to work around limitations in older...

For a trench guy you seem awfully averse to change. Different and bad are not the same. 1. Little to no messing with drivers. 2. Very few updates after SP1 if installed.

Indeed. The only people I know who like Islay Malts are those who smoke heavily. Considering my favorite alcohol is Vodka (pretty much the other end of the spectrum) with the heaviest thing I enjoy being Tequila, going to the heaviest of the heavies (Islay Malts) seems unnecessarily cruel.

    Router Build

I think it is significantly paranoid. A) The *nix-based appliances are really secure, particularly as they receive regular updates. B) The guest has very little chance of seeing the host. C) As soon as your firewall is gone there are plenty of avenues to attack a windows box anyway.

Hitachi Data Systems to spin of storage division

I've run 3TB drives on USB without issue, though not those exact drives. I have yet to hear of any RAID controllers that correctly identify and work with 3TB drives of any kind. I would be very cautious in that aspect.
  45. ddrueding

Hitachi Data Systems to spin of storage division

Certainly a great price. 3TB drives do still have issues with some controllers, and all RAID controllers. IIRC, you don't use RAID, and you use newer Intel chipset boards, so you should be fine.
