I need a very quiet power supply for a dual Xeon Supermicro

Thanks CougTek. I did a bit of research, and considering the 5 scsi drives, and the SCA box, ATI 800XL, two NEC DVD writers, speakers, and anything else I might connect, and the dual xeons, I went with the SeaSonic 600w S12. Yes, it's very expensive, but, I did get the S12 400W in my other box...

Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

Mercutio: ATI's software is pretty sucky. Not totally awful, but pretty bad, don't you think? Minimal install solves that, but I'm not sure customers would be jazzed. That said, the drivers can also suck. Guy telling me my 700XL didn't work, becuase it froze with the windows 64 bit drivers...

WHY DON'T I LISTEN TO YOU GUYS SOMETIMES???

Well, the 700XL with 256 mb of vram is pretty impressive. Combined with the 3000+, it flys. Gives my dual Xeons and the 800XL a run for the money. I kind of wonder if for 250, it isn't the value card, overall.

What anti-spyware anti-adware combos do you use nowadays?

I'm getting to the point where I remove the Internet Explorer Icons from the desktop, and the launch menus, and replace them with Firefox. I will say Firefox is better then it's been, and so far, all of my favorite sites work fine with it, and, I've even been able to download the plug-ins, and...

What anti-spyware anti-adware combos do you use nowadays?

Good thread. I like Mercutio's running from safe mode trick. Why does Firefox avoid the tracking cookies that I do get a few of, in Internet Explorer? The only problem I have with manual cookie handling are websites that try and load graphics, like logos, etc. onto your machine, so you...

Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

You may have a point. I have a CF-51 laptop, and the processor stayed at about 600MHz doing all my regular computer functions, for surfing etc. I had to open every program I use to get the processor to finally kick up to 1.6 ghz. WMP and my DVD player, etc. Now it runs at proper speed, or I...

Great. I need to go to San D to pick up a couple surfboards. After my torn hamstring, and gaining 5 pounds, I have no idea if I'll fit in my wetsuits, or, if I'll even be able to stand up.. Keep in mind, I surfed the North Shore of oahu for 10 years.... s

Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

I'm currently planning on building a new box for my girlfriend. The P2 400 mhz has a quantum LM to boot from, 384 mb of ram, P 550 matrox graphic card, and it's silent. I was planning on using the Sonata case, since it's small and sort of bling-bling, and cheap, the P550 should be fine for...

Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

Hi Buck: I looked at your recommendation, but it's a PCI-E board, and I have an ATI 700 XL with AGP8X I wanted to use in this box. Other then that, I think the features are nearly identical, so I have the GA-K8NSCC-939 sitting here, and, it may not have a bad motherboard ATA channel, after...

WHY DON'T I LISTEN TO YOU GUYS SOMETIMES???

Haven't figured it all out right now, but, running with an ATI 700XL, it seems to run games as fast, or faster, then the ATI 800XL, on the Xeon dual 2.8ghz. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE VIDEO CARD. It must be ATI's drivers for Windows 64 bit that aren't compatible with the Nvidia 3 chipset. Guess...

Thanks. Up and running. So far, looks ok. Apparently the lit keyboard only works out of the back USB ports, which sort of sucks. Running at 1.8 ghz, and it's pretty quick. Can't wait to get cables, and reinstall on cheetahs. XL 700 seems to work fine with 32 bit OS. ATI drivers suck again. s

Why do Socket 939 Boards suck so much?

Why me? K8NSC-939 Turns out it has a faulty ATA channel. Why me? ATA and I seem to be allergic. Plus, since it's going to have 64 bit windows, all my scsi cards don't work, so I either buy a new one, or RMA the motherboard. Maybe I can get them to ship a new one, and credit for the old...
