    Windows 7 Memory issue

I have. Other than voltage/timing stuff, I can't find anything. There is no setting for "reserve" or "memory mapping" that I can find. The fact that it sees the memory and refuses to use it has me puzzled. memtest86+ sees all the memory as well. So does CPU-Z in Win7.

    Netbook for the wife

I really like mine, but would want something with the dual-core atom, a lower power chipset, and a bigger battery. Also get something with a 2.5" SATA drive, so you can swap it out for an SSD easier. The usability of these things revolves around the ability for it to boot and load a browser as...

    USB Issues

I've had this issue when I had too many USB devices on a port as well. After digging, it said something about me drawing too much power or having exceeded the reserved bandwidth. Do you happen to have a USB hub involved?

    General Motors

Something else the American mfgrs need to realize. They had a really bad build quality rep for a long time. I believe they have fixed it now, and are in fact building cars that are equivalent to some euro/asian cars. The problem is that they have a huge amount of momentum and reputation to deal...

My needs are fairly specialized as well, you'll be seeing something in the "don't want to buy a used car" thread soon, but the current winner is an Audi Allroad 2.7T Quattro. I suspect that would work well for Tannin as well.

    Remote connections for maintenance?

Great tip on Crossloop. I just gave them the URL and an hour to figure it out while I was at dinner. They had a connection code for me by the time I got back. And it even supports Macs. Thanks!

    Remote connections for maintenance?

In the past, I've always walked people through setting up RDC, then forwarding ports in their router, then finding their external IP, just so I can remote in. There are a bunch of websites that allow an easier way in. Any recommendations? Free is good, but not necessary. Compatible with...

    Windows 7 Memory issue

See attached image. This machine has 12GB in it, and it passed memtest86+ overnight at these settings. For some reason, the line reads: "Installed memory (RAM): 12.0 GB (8.00 GB usable)" And sure enough, my apps only see 8GB. After some googling, some people said that doing some re-mapping...

    Buying a projector

Meh, I don't have that much cash to throw around. Particularly now that the buyer for my old system fell through, and my car needs new tires, and I just bought a new sail for my boat (more than the projector), and I broke my tripod, and we need a new washer and dryer...things are stacking up...

    Buying a projector

After 4 years, 3 bulbs, and considerable enjoyment my Sharp XR-20X died a loud, smelly, and slightly fiery death last night. I was hoping that it would hold out until the prices of 1080p stuff came down some more, but there it is. Looking at an InFocus X10. It isn't as bright as my old...

    dSLR thread

No offense taken, Stereodude, I appreciate all the tips provided so far. I'm sure that the two biggest problems were lighting and DOF. The trick is, in order to improve lighting, I need to get the flash off the camera (so it can be off-angle, correct?) and diffuse it a bit (globe? reflector?)...

Merc, I know the whole you speak of. It is not the hole you're looking for. Sorry, couldn't help it. I'll try to take some pictures of the back side today. If you remove the back side panel, and look at the bottom of the motherboard tray right in front of the power supply, you should see a gap...

    Win7 x64 on ICH9R?

I suspect that since you used to have the OS on the RAID array, you still have some boot files there. 7 can look at your Vista install and know this. That is why it needs to see the RAID array before it will install. This is also why I don't do upgrades or dual-boot systems without isolated...

    Where is the next CPU?

I didn't drill any holes, just ran everything along the back of the motherboard. The P-182 had some gaps in the motherboard tray and tie-down points on the back for this purpose. The P-183 is better yet. That system does have a pair of drives in one of these (awesome, BTW) stuck in the 3.5"...

    Where is the next CPU?

I don't use the holes they provide at all. I think I'd describe building in a P-18x as difficult, but it makes real cleanliness possible. Most cases can't look like this.

    Where is the next CPU?

The $900 includes a redundant, high-powered PSU and all the hot-swap bays. Besides, after you add in the 16 2TB drives ($4k), 16-port RAID card ($1k), and the rest ($1k), $900 doesn't seem so bad (14%). It is only "too many eggs" if you don't have another basket. Just get two of them ;)

    Where is the next CPU?

Ah. I route those bits behind the motherboard to wherever they go, then they pop out. Same with that corner, the SATA drops behind the motherboard immediately on it's way to the lower chamber (if you use a right-angle cable, you see nothing) and the power/reset/etc slack gets sucked up under the...
