SSDs - State of the Product?

Just to underscore/highlight this more, I actually bought both. I had both a X58/i7EE and that crazy ASUS dual-proc board with a pair of Xeon 3.06Ghz chips in it. Both were sitting on my desk, both had a RAID-0 of Vertex SSDs in them, and both had an identical build of Windows 7 installed. After...

    Where is the next CPU?

Where does an X25-E fall behind a spinning disk? All the benches I've seen show them extend their lead under heavy I/O.

Yeah, I was being cheap. I have access to the companies construction crew, but (of course) they don't have specialty parts.

    Random help

You friggin rule. I've been googling for about an hour without success; I even submitted a bunch of stuff to Samsung... ...but it looks like I can't order that part? I can order a new dryer and include that part, but it isn't available on it's own? I'll keep looking...

    Random help

This has nothing to do with computers, but you guys are a resourceful bunch. ;) I just purchased and had delivered a new washer and dryer (Samsung WF448AAW and DV448AGW, respectively). The dryer is gas, and my local handyman found notes in the install guide that a LP conversion kit needs to be...

    Drive imaging software

Acronis has finally jumped the dolphin. The new version of their software not only has massive bloat, but hasn't worked properly for me yet, and has the "normal" tasks hidden. I'm looking for a simple app that can copy a drive or RAID array to a file or another disk/array. If it can do it while...

I haven't done any "studio" shooting in over 4 years. Studio is in quotes because it was with a PnS, but one of my pictures did win an award and was published.

It is an online office suite. E-mail/contacts/calendar, documents, spreadsheets, presentations all online as webpages. Including the storing of documents. Where is the next CPU?

I'm running SSDs on Win7 at work and the same SSDs on XPx64 at home. XP is still faster, the TRIM command doesn't give you as much as MS has taken away.

WinXP x64 loves SSDs, particularly the fast ones. Vertex or X25 are still the way to go.

    Where is the next CPU?

The slow down over time issue won't be resolved. It is a fundamental performance characteristic of flash-based storage. The only "solution" I can think of is to have partially-used pages consolidated and wiped during idle time. Otherwise just consider the "dirty" speed as the actual speed of the...

Walked out to where my wife and I got married yesterday (Capitola Beach). There was a guy sitting there with his dogs and a 1DsIII with 70-200/2.8. No camera bag, just out for a walk. I'm really not a jealous person, really ;)

    Where is the next CPU?

A single SSD will give you around 200mb/sec. My secondary system has a RAID-0 of SSDs in it, but that is because the ones I had weren't large enough.

I don't think it was anything that serious. I don't go to the doctor, just ice and exercise (if possible). I couldn't walk on it at first, but it is mostly better now (still bruised, and I can't run on it, but better).

    Netbook for the wife

That is the biggest sacrifice with netbooks IMHO. 600 pixels isn't really much for anything. I expected the CPU to be really lame, but so long as you avoid doing CPU intensive stuff (like converting RAW files), you don't even notice it. The keyboard is fine and the touchpad isn't bad, if a bit...
