SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

I have one in my newegg shopping cart right now. Next to the 7D and a printer. I wouldn't hesitate if I actually needed one. None of my SSDs saturate the bus yet, so there isn't a need. I also haven't seen a performance increase going to a dedicated RAID card vs. the onboard RAID for RAID-0.

Man, I don't know my IOPS requirements. I stick SSDs in the local machine, and it works great. I want to know what performance hit it will take moving the drives out of the box.

    Remote disks...

Anyone seen performance comparisons between local storage and iSCSI for SSDs and the like? I'm evaluating moving the storage on my ESXi out of the server and into a SAN/NAS/whatever. The vendor (of course) says it is fine, but I'd like to see some numbers elsewhere.

And, for the price, it offers a better and easier option. Only once I had a disk it couldn't handle. After the next update (a week?) it went without issue.

    Windows 7 nonsense

It won't. The only reason it wrote stuff to another drive is that it thought that the other disk came first in the boot order. I assume you choose boot drive using the BIOS?

    WTB: Windows 98 SE

Just dug through the filing cabinet. The best I can do is an OEM (For distribution with a new PIONEX PC only). Manual with key, disk, and sleeve all original. Looks to be original 98 as well, not SE. I also have 95 on floppy if you want to go crazy.

    24GB+ of RAM?

Speaking of power failures...just having our first major rain of the year. The rain started at 4:15AM, the first gensets started turning on at 4:30AM (after 5 minutes of being on battery). PG&E (our power company) is crap. Now I get to drive to some of our more remote locations in the rain to...

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

None of the RAID cards I've had prevented you from turning on write cache without the battery, they just highly advised against it. Of course, you can safely allocate all the cache to be read cache safely.

SAS: CARDS, ETC. WORTH THE MONEY?

They have a fairly indifferent rep, actually. They sell many cards, including major OEMs, and I don't hear much about them. I take that as a good thing.

I can bypass any of the UPS or the generator independently. The system can keep running for short periods of time on just one of the power supplies; long enough for the switch to take effect at least.

Already have the dual PDUs, each drawing from their own on-line UPS, that then draws from the single beast UPS, and the single massive generator. Not flawless, but pretty damn good. ;)

    Wireless to Wireless Bridge

Ubiquiti equipment is designed for wireless ISPs, both for links from towers to peoples homes and for backhauls from tower to tower.
