    Wiring a house for LED

From what I understand, CFL means not dimmable? I consider that a must-have for domestic lighting, particularly in multi-purpose rooms and bedrooms, which is all I have.

    No Raid solution

Um, yes....yes....that is what I meant. I'm exhausted. Between doing demo all day and reading lighting specs all night...I'm toast.

    No Raid solution

Not 100% applicable, as I visualize all my servers (even if it is a small business with one VM). I now have a half-dozen servers with a Z-Drive and a spinning disk backup. Depending on what they are willing to spend on ESXi licensing, I either do 30-minute snapshots or every night backups...

    Wiring a house for LED

Thanks for the tip. What should I be looking at? They offer LED lighting, but it is 3200K, ~80CRI, dim, and crazy expensive.

    Wiring a house for LED

It is time for me to begin wiring and purchasing fixtures. Unfortunately, the budget for the fancy lighting got sunk into other aspects of the house, so it will need to be fairly normal to start. Looks like we'll be installing about 50 recessed lights throughout the house. It seems that...

This Is Why We Don't Buy Drives From Newegg

Even if you are willing to order in significantly large numbers (<50), newegg still often has the best prices. I know they beat out my Ingram Micro pricing, even when I was doing $250k/yr.

This Is Why We Don't Buy Drives From Newegg

I used to work for a big box computer retailer, and to think that they handle the merchandise better than UPS would be a mistake. Further, thinking that because you can talk to someone face-to-face you will get satisfaction is a mistake. The managers there are trained to be cold as ice and deny...

What's the verdict on Windows 7?

I start by giving them the choice. Something that is easier to use, easier to access, cheaper, and easier to share documents with, that might not be able to do some obscure stuff. I've also noticed these guys put out better documents, because they aren't spending all day screwing with fonts and...

SSDs - State of the Product?

MSI is much the same. That doesn't mean I stop buying them, I just evaluate their product as if it had no warranty. The 40GB Intel with warranty vs 30GB Vertex without @ $100 - no brainer. The 80GB Intel @ $200 vs 60GB Vertex @ $130? - maybe.

The city does have buses, but they don't go anywhere you would want to go, and they don't get there in any reasonable amount of time. I could sell the boat ($6k) and all the camera gear ($8k?) and my gaming rig ($6k?) AND sell the car and get a designer kitchen...or not.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

Coug, I can't afford an elevator. The Audi is worth $25k (with 55k miles), the GTI (with 230k miles) is perhaps $2k. The house was $260k. Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

I read that as well, and am anxious as to how they will do it. If there is even the slightest thought to making it playable on a console, the whole idea is toast. The accuracy/realism/difficulty was what made it fun. You really did have the sense that you were developing a skill.

You'll need a punchdown tool for the patch panel anyway, so you might as well get the same for the wall jacks. They are faster once you get the hang of it.
