    Persistent floppy

A customer runs Win2k SP2 on an Athlon PC that's about 9 months old. He just called with a rather unusual problem. When he puts a floppy disk in the drive, he can read it okay and view the directory. But if he replaces the disk with another, Explorer continues to display the directory from the...

    SR Signal to Noise

Does this thread showcase SR's decline, or I am I just being naive? http://forums.storagereview.net/viewtopic.php?t=3653&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= I get upset at the end ... I think I was just wasting my time, but I'd appreciate some feedback from the people here. Thanks.

    Communications infrastructure ownership

In Oz, all exchanges, local wiring and most trunks are owned by one telco, which used to be government owned. Based on experiences in other countries, how do you think this sort of thing would be handled in Nirvana? For instance, some streets in Oz have not one but two heavy cables decorating...

    Tesltra Big Pong

Telstra is a virtual monopolist telco in Australia. They have frequently been compared to Microsoft. Suffice to say they are not popular, but there is often no alternative provider. http://www.zdnet.com.au/newstech/communications/story/0,2000024993,20263181,00.htm

    Scanning photographs

We've been playing with a low end Epson scanner, the 1250 Photo. It comes with a slide and film adaptor, but I've been unhappy with the results. Scans of photographic prints have slight tonal problems with blue/green colors, but that's more an irritation. The big gripe is that scans of 35mm...

    Flagreen's mailbox

Flagreen, I received a bounced message yesterday. My ISP's SMTP server claimed it had been trying for 4-5 days to contact your Hotmail address. I guess you're used to this, being a HotMail user, but just thought you'd like to know anyway ...
