Thanks for the tips Tannin. I do run around with the 35mm/F2 Prime quite often, but none of the pictures make the cut. Either I need more practice or I'm too used to shooting @ 50mm. Likely both. I shoot with a prime almost exclusively; the only time I don't is when I am hiking with only a...

Thanks Tannin. When you speak of shooting details with a longer lens, is it the compressed perspective that you are after? Or just a closer crop to the subjects? I see what you are talking about with your critique, and most of the things you said make sense (despite the 80/20). Thanks much.

I haven't been out surfing in many years, but it's amazing how big the "ridable" waves are getting nowadays. Of course, I consider getting towed-in cheating, and the last guy to paddle into such waves dies trying (at age 45!).

We have white ones and brown ones. I'm sure they have better names, but I don't know them. At one point I was told that the brown ones are female and the white male of the same species; I have no evidence either way. These aren't nice bird pictures, in that the birds simply wouldn't move. This...

Wow. That is the dumbest thing ever. What affiliation does WD have with the media industry? Sony may be willing to let it's storage products flop in an attempt to help their movies, but WD doesn't make movies. If their HDDs don't sell, they're screwed.

I believe that was Tannin's point above. You get many more shots in the buffer if you shoot JPG.

'Fraid not. Although "yeah" is technically a word, it doesn't really represent an emotion or concept well enough to be used emphatically. Sucks and dude are both capable of providing emotional context, and are therefore more powerful when used correctly, as you demonstrated above.

I was bouncing off the buffer the whole time last night. My action photography (argentine tango), always has something interesting going on. Good dancers can go from walking side-by-side to a flying gancho before you could press the shutter. And with it as dark as it is, shooting in JPG just...

Very cool. I've been trying to figure out how to base jump off Mt Whitney. I love the hike up, and the views are fantastic, but my knees can't handle the hike down anymore. At 4400+m the air isn't thick enough to get away from the wall, this might be enough.
