I'm glad you had a pleasant time. April is pretty far out, though there isn't much good driving weather between then and now for that part of the country.

Another day and a half for that array rebuild :(

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Possibly. I haven't looked at the manual yet, just using the "quick create" mode.

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Initialization time in RAID-6 looks to be a third of RAID-10...looks promising.

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Not in my experience, but I have never tried to create a RAID-0 on an expensive controller, just the onboard stuff.

The fan noise is comparable. I'm only gaming on a 42" 1920x1080 Sharp AQUOS, but I like high framerates. Once I turned it above 4x AA, the framerate went to crap.

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Thanks Stereodude. That is pretty lame. Perhaps I'll switch it over to RAID-6 and see what it's capable of.

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Sorry, didn't see this before. No, you don't. It warns you that any data on the drives will be destroyed, and then the array is live. There is no redundancy, so there is nothing to verify.

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Oh, and one of the 1.5TB Samsungs failed on its second power-up, so it switched over to the hot spare already :(

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Yeah, there might be some settings I should change. I haven't done anything to it, really.

    Something Random

While I'm sure our most prolific poster is occupied, I just felt like posting something random. The HD5870 is faster in NFS:Shift than the GTX295. Anyone interested in a secondhand GTX295? It has about 4 months of un-overclocked gaming on it. I just noticed my machine keeps getting simpler...

    Weird networking configuration question

I want the remote site to get it's internet through the primary site. The only way to the internet is through 192.168.0.1. Everything at 192.168.0.x can get on the internet. Everything at 192.168.0.x can (when the static route is added) get to machines on 192.168.2.x through 192.168.0.46 No...

    Weird networking configuration question

I'm concerned about the added complexity of NATing, setting up port forwarding rules and the like would complicate things. Particularly as some of the machines in the 2.x network need to talk to machines in the 1.x network using different protocols.

    Weird networking configuration question

I have everything setup and in production now, I just have one issue. The 192.168.2.x network connects over this VPN to the 192.168.0.x network. The DD-WRT device on the second network has IP address 192.168.0.46. Adding a static route to the necessary servers allows them to communicate well...

I think SD is right, though most of my arrays are AID0, so I don't have this issue. Edit: Thinking about it, most of my arrays are AD0, since they are SSDs ;)

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

That would be great. I had issues setting up IOMeter the last time I tried using it. When this array has finally finished initializing (2 more days?), I'll give it a shot.

    Verifying a RAID10 array? Annoying....
  22. ddrueding

    8 x 1.5TB + Perc 6i + RAID-6 = Faster Storage

Those are remarkably good write speeds considering it is RAID-6. I'm in the middle of creating a RAID-10 array with 6 of those drives on an Areca controller with 2GB cache. It will be interesting to compare the results.

    Typhoon Ondoy and Hard Disks

Fushigi's suggestion is excellent. I might even suggest that you remove the circuit board and rinse it separately. There is a vent hole in the drive to allow the platters to breathe (or in this case, drown) so I wouldn't hold out too much hope.

The nervousness of dating is much like the thrill of skydiving. Sucks when you are there, but looking back it seems like such a good time you want to do it again. Just remember that she choose to make the trip based on what she knows about you. If you have represented yourself well to this...

    Speeding up Windows File Sharing

Based on my reading of the advanced Teaming options in the device driver, there seem to be many settings for teaming. Many of them are just as you say, but the mode called "Static Link Aggregation" looks promising. It only works with Intel multi-port NICs, and still requires the switches to...

It isn't a big deal either way. This is replacing a T1-based VPN, primarily for connections to a Citrix server. Those play nice on a WAN.

The quad port cards are amazingly expensive ($400+). But if this shows a significant improvement, the main fileserver and it's backup might get one.

Nichia Develops 60 Lumen Per Watt White LED

In the Audi and my VW, if you turn on the lights after the car is off and the keys removed, they stay on. Weird networking configuration question

If it weren't for the power requirements, Smoothwall would be my #1 choice. I have a VIA EPIA system sitting here as a last resort. If I could just hook up two small boxes, that would be great. I know that DD-WRT supports VPN stuff, but it is far from simple.

    Weird networking configuration question

That was my first guess, Fushigi. Any recommendations on an appliance that could manage that? It seems a really simple task, and I'd hate to stick a computer in when I don't have to (one of the locations is a solar-powered tower, less power draw is better).

    Newegg to offer IPO

That would be my first guess. It would also be the reason I wouldn't consider buying. If the brains are cashing out, then even if it wasn't time to jump ship, it will behave differently with someone else in control.

    Weird networking configuration question

We will be using another companies WAN infrastructure to reach a branch office. I have an Ethernet port to their network at both of my offices. Main office <-> Their network <-> Our Branch Office 192.168.168.2 <-> whatever <-> 192.168.168.3 I can ping directly across the link, so there isn't...

I just read a chunk of that article. It and your post confirm something that I have felt (high CRI doesn't explicitly make a bulb good). PCIe x1 NiC's (gigabit)???

When will you upgrade to Windows 7?

There was an article somewhere that talked about the eye-candy in 7 being good at distracting you from the slowness.
