    Audio Equipment

I don't really understand this whole thing. I know that many people don't like Klipsch because of "Horn-loaded tweeters" or something. No idea what that means, or what the deal is. What I like about them is that they sound good down to really low volume.

    Heatsink Needed

If it is Socket 775, I have the stock cooler that came with my Extreme Edition CPU sitting around. Compact, fairly quiet, a cinch to install, and capable of dealing with a significant amount of heat.

Thanks for all the advice so far. It looks like I will be trying to acquire some Polk in-wall speakers via eBay as I can. I suspect I'll be looking at the TCi and not the LCi, but compromises are what they are. I'm currently battling to get an RS4, so I can let this slide.

My wife has voiced her...concern...over the size and appearance of some of the speakers I'm looking at. What are people's thoughts on in-wall/in-ceiling speakers/subs? This (compromising with her) is one of the ways I can grow my budget.

Yeah. Don't do the Smart Security. It isn't so smart, nor any more secure then the good stuff (NOD32).

    dSLR thread

I don't think that's right. I think it would be more appropriate to say that we expect progress. When I go to replace an old camera, I expect something comparable to be less, or to get more for the same money. It seems noise is no longer acceptable at all. I know on my XSi I cringe whenever I...

My opinion is that they can stop anytime with this whole megapixel thing. It is very rare for me to get a pixel-sharp image. I know a significant amount of it is lack of skill, with poor lens quality backing that up, but enough is enough. Often I downsample the image before posting, sometimes by...

Yup. 5 speakers and a sub for under a grand. Decent in this case refers to something appreciably better than what I have. The set I have now needs to go somewhere else, so I can't just upgrade some of them. I am not opposed to buying used, but know nothing about speakers or where to get them.

That will definitely be the route to take if it turns out I'll be spending any significant amount of money. The speakers I have now are the ones that came with my $300 Onkyo HTiB kit a few years ago(1). To be honest, these speakers are just fine for my needs, but need to be allocated...

AV Software that allows port opening?

ESET makes the good program, NOD32, which is a great antivirus app (IMHO, the best) They also make "System Security" or some such that tries to replicate all the crap that Norton and McAffee do; firewall, app scanning, internet nannying, etc.

ATI CCC Advanced Mode on Server 2008 R2 x64

Interesting bit here. I still can't get my 5870 to detect my other monitors. I have three connected (42" LCD via HDMI (detected), 27" LCD & 24" LCD via DVI (not detected)). The other two screens don't appear at all. I just re-installed the latest drivers and Hydravision, and still no luck.

    Step away from the Rolex

That kind of ties in with a conversation I was having with a friend about "the American dream". Step away from the Rolex

An interesting quote you chose, as I picked out the same from the article and almost used it to demonstrate an obvious bias/slant/troll in the article. There is a reason that the words "always" and "never" aren't used in scientific papers, because pretty much nothing is always anything. I also...
