    Something Random

Yup, that is the expected behavior. I've had arrays take a week to rebuild. The drive that is pegged is the one storing the CRC data, it will cycle through all the drives eventually.

    Major Screwup

It has been recognized all around that I need a staff, but the money simply isn't there at the moment. The best I can do is keep my head down and dodge the pay cuts.

    Major Screwup

I was able to pick the correct drive order, and I confirmed that the array is supposed to start at sector 63, and confirmed the stripe size, but it still wouldn't see anything. I gave up, started the restore from backup, sent an e-mail to 100+ people saying the primary shared drive would be...

    Major Screwup

It notified me that all data would be destroyed, and I clicked yes. However the operation happened way too quickly to have actually re-written all the sectors, so I suspect the data is still there. The other drive is still dynamic and "broken". Lovely idea, but I am a one-man show here, and...

I have RAID Reconstructor running now, but it can't find the correct settings? I thought MS Dynamic SoftRAID started at sector 63, but it isn't having it.

    Major Screwup

I just clicked "Convert to Basic Drive" one of the drives in a Dynamic RAID-0 array. When it said "Are you Sure? This will destroy all data. Don't be Stupid." I clicked yes. I would really like to get that data back. Is Get Data Back the tool for this job? I'm starting to Google now, but am in...

    Model Rocketry with Video

I have a shopping cart at Apogee for a 3" (75mm) diameter rocket with support for 24mm motors. RockSim 9 won't run on 7-x64 so I can't get the exact numbers at the moment. Looks like the rocket alone (no motors, no launch gear, no camera) will run about $100.

Very good info, Uda. Though I won't be doing F-class motors at all to start. Even if I could just get a D12 to send it up a couple hundred feet from a park in town, the footage would look pretty cool. Based on this altitude predictor, I have about 200g or payload to manage 250ft. That sounds...

    Model Rocketry with Video

When I was a kid, I built at least 30 rockets. The trick to likely recovery was to get the rocket back down as quickly as possible. Don't use an 18" parachute when a 12" will do, and use a streamer unless the decent rate will cause damage on impact. Of course, the worst crashes are when the...

Interesting. My mother teaches at an elementary school nearby, and I used to do rocket demonstrations for them. I figured this would probably go that direction if it worked. My plan was to have the camera pointed straight out the side at the horizon, with the option of having a mirror mounted in...

    Model Rocketry with Video

I'm thinking of getting back into this, loved it when I was a kid. Of course, I want to stick an HD video camera in it. When I was 10, the best I could do was an Estes kit with a roll of 110 film in it. So the rocket part isn't difficult or expensive. What I'm looking for is the...

    Virtual servers? How and why?

I mentioned virtualization to Greg after showing him the workstation backup capabilities of Windows Home Server. Considering Greg uses his "server" as more than just a file and backup server, running WHS as the only OS wasn't feasible. However, using a free tool like VirtualBox or VMWare Server...

The stock fan on that enclosure is crazy loud, and had long ago been replaced with a Vantec Stealth. Apparently that was enough when the enclosure was in the case, but during the data transfer the enclosure was on the workbench on its own. IIRC, that had a bunch of 10k and some 15k drives in...

The objectives on this machine were size and battery life, just upgrading the bits that wouldn't affect those negatively. Of course, I'm now dynamically OC'ing it 27% as well, but that doesn't affect battery life too much over all.
