    600GB Velociraptor

There is a space between, though increasing performance of 7.2k drives and decreasing cost of SSDs is putting the squeeze on more each day. I was considering using them for the low-requirement VMs and the more demanding file servers.

Pirating it, making sure it half as good as that, then buying a copy with the proceeds from my first sale using the program? That is how I did CS4, Photomatix, and PTGui.

After a few nights digging through and creating my own spreadsheet breaking out all the values in a more sensible way, it seems to all add up. Whoever thought that the way it was presented was useful should be shot. We'll be able to adapt to the payments; including tax, insurance, etc, it will...

    Networking weirdness in 7...

Vaguely. As I'm sure you are aware, you are now entering 200-level TCP/IP stuff. It gets tough to visualize stuff. If you feel like it, try creating a Gliffy diagram that includes both computers, the router, and all the IP addresses. When you are accessing the share on the server from the...

Building a home NAS - feedback on build

That is the frustrating part; the brick isn't even their product! Sure, they chose to include it and (one hopes) are aware of the QC issues, but I've found that the QC of the product itself is much higher than the brick.

Building a home NAS - feedback on build

I have noticed more and more that cheap DC bricks are the weak link in small electronic devices. 50% of my Linksys router woes are because of this as well. I wish I knew of a decent manufacturer of quality replacements.

Trying to reconcile a GFE (Good Faith Estimate) with a Truth in Lending Disclosure Statement. They arrived in the same packet, and I know that they are about the same loan, but 99% of the numbers are not the same. SSDs - State of the Product?

They are one of the very few chip designers for SSD controllers, theirs are supposed to be the new hotness. IIRC, the Vertex LE was the only one out there last time I looked.

Yep, those. I don't have any yet, but if anything commonly available is close to an X25-E, it would be one of those.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I have the same problem. I'm pretty sure the Vertex and the X-25 aren't the best available, or the cheapest, but they do work as advertised so I'm just going to stick with them. From what I've read, the C300 is decent as well.

There are certainly some pricey options out there. One of the reasons most pre-fab systems aren't ideal is that they are designed flat (to accommodate multiple viewers), while mine will be designed for one and will be wrapped around them to a certain degree. Anyone know how multiple...

That strikes me as awfully subjective; I've been holding laptops with my left arm for a long time. Older 17"ers were a bit much, but 6-pound laptops for the 35-minute BART ride from SF to Berkeley wasn't a big deal.

I'll be picking one up on Saturday. I'll let you know how it goes. No, not for me. And no, I don't have a choice in the matter. It is too expensive for what it does and I consider it's functionality broken. It will be replaced as soon as a replacement is available.
