Bought it. Just a Sigma 170-500; 6.3 is as quick as it gets, and sharp it isn't. Autofocus is pretty slow, too. But used from B&H, the price was right (<$600, IIRC). Of course, now I'm tempted to get a good Canon "L" telephoto. But that would be crazy with the other expenses I'm considering at...

How much money? $200 for a normal mini-fridge, maybe $1k if I decided to really go for a sweet custom job (depends on how geeky it could be). If the geek/interest factor was high enough, building one might be quite fun. 120v AC would be the only needed input.

I doubt Merc's issues were with the image quality. For me, I'm happy with about 1:300, pleased with 1:1000, proud of exactly 5 so far (out of 40,000+?)

Looking for something for my office. As part of my efforts to eat cheaper/healthier, I want to put a fridge in my office. It doesn't need to be big, and if it could double as a side table, that would be awesome. 1. Good: A real thermostat and the ability to run at 38F (3C). 2. Silent: Really...

It isn't released yet. You won't be able to buy one for quite a while (in computer terms, at least). The owner of that card will have the fastest system outside development labs for some time.

Adobe requiring a download assistant plug-in to then be able to download Flash is really lame. There used to be a way around it, so I could just get an executable, but I can't find it now.

The Grados are nice. I really don't like headphones, so much so that I have put some time into soundproofing my office so I can turn my music up during the day, but these probably make the clearest sound of any stereo I own.

Certainly not restore. That is absolutely impossible. But replace with something acceptably similar (or even just plausible) should be possible.

I would consider any PDF I did not create to be potentially dodgy. Considering the purpose of the format is to easily transport and exchange information, dealing with dodgy PDFs kinda comes with the territory.

You're missing an important part in that argument. The JPEG spec does not specify that code should be executable, therefore ignoring executable code is still a legit implementation.

IE5 on 2k is like running around a dark alley with your pants down. Unsustainable is the best word I could think of for it, running a business without the latest updates, patches, and protection is reckless.
