    Speechless - thank you everyone!

Everything I want to say has been said more eloquently by others. But still, Thanks, Doug! SF is a very special place. And Merc is da man. He cooked up this idea, and made it all happen. We thank him for all the time and effort he's put into this. :D :colors: :bglaugh: :D

    My cats hate books

Maybe they're smart enough to realize that attention given them is instead being redirected towards books & keyboard. So they try to prevent you spending time with the "attention grabbers". Pretty much like kids, really.

So, who's getting a WD Raptor?

Regardless of what specs say, when I went from a Fireball Plus LM 20GB to a WD 80GB/8MB for my OS & Progs, I noticed a pretty significant improvement.

Reg. Tannin's post: My car radio (the only one I can lay my hands on really easily) is always tuned to one of two NPR stations in town. I watch little television (~2 hours a month?) and when I do, its PBS. There is a small but very dedicated following the the public broadcasting system in the...

A true love story between two world leaders!

The Mpeg was hilarious!!! :D :D The web site speaks for itself. What's at the top of the "About" page is especially relevant. Unlike our present hero, the father at least had some grey cells between his ears.

    Back-up SW - disk-at-once cd writing

Packet writing: Merc ranted about it in another thread, and I tend to agree with him. Packet writing is always slower as well. Sorry, Time, no Packet Writing  DOA, TOA, SOA: DOA is the most compatible of them all. I've had some problems with the others, but have *never* ever had a...

    Back-up SW - disk-at-once cd writing

Well, Merc, it ain't for me. It's for my technophobe brother that, after 12 years of repeatedly showing how, buying "Dummy" books for him on my nickel, and unlimited phone support still does not know how to copy files from one folder to another, and keeps telling me "You didn't show me how...

Clocker: What is this SHEP stuff?

Honold, The info. I read about SHEP initially, and that caused me to post here was that Ford is releasing at least one vehicle next year. If this was all still in the tinkering stage, I wouldn't have bothered with it. That said, what I read was propaganda, and your sources probably have the...

    Back-up SW - disk-at-once cd writing

I felt bad about hijacking Buck's thread, hence this new one. Anybody know of point-click backup software that can write to CD-RW in Disk-at-Once mode? ie., I don't want to use packet writing. All of them out there want to use packet writing. I emailed NTI, Stomp, et all; some didn't bother...

    Thanks Merc: Speeze CPU cooler

The thread that will not die! Something I read here says pressure is very important in reducing thermal resistance. Since the Speeze coolers seem to come with super-stron clips, they probably clamp down real hard on the processor, and this may be the secret to their performance.

First off, I've been out of action (as far as SF is concerned) for ~24 hours :( Honold, this post is mainly addressed to you. This is a heated and sensitive topic. With heated arguments. It's a debate on points. We seemed to have totally different perspectives on certain issues, and I was...

At the time Israel was created, weren't the Palestinians promised their own country? IIRC, Britain was the main negotiator / arbitrator during those events. What both of you said echoes my own sentiments. You might know that an American college girl who had gone there to see things for herself was mowed down and killed by an Israeli tank.
