Suggestions for Carbus FireWire (or FW/USB combo)

Key requirement is that it should work in DOS (Ghost, DriveImage, etc.); there are various DOS drivers I've downloaded, but I'm hoping somebody uses Ghost with one of these and is satisfied with the performance/reliability. I'd much prefer a USB/FW combo card, and would prefer a power option or...

80 MB/sec not enough on today's SCSI controllers?

My defrag schedule is also on a manually variable basis, usually once every 3 or 4 weeks. Having an older system, there is a noticeable improvement for a while, mainly in booting (every day). I'm using W2k and NTFS. I shutdown every night. Over the last 6 months or so, booting has become...

Copying from one location to another

jtr, I have Partition Magic and Drive Image, both of which will not touch datestamps. I used WinExplorer in this particular instance because I neded to rearrange a lot of stuff, and since Ii was going to be replacing drives, decided to solve two issues at one stroke. And I moved the folders...

On a related note, I copied entire partitions back and forth between drives as in drive D --> drive E --> replace drive D --> copy from drive E to new drive D. POS W2k created all folders and sub-folders in the new drive with the current date instead of the original create date. The files are...

    nforce2 Audio strangeness

If it's a hardware problem, why would it go away when you reinstall Windows? Also it's not clear if the level drops off and stays dropped even after rebooting until you reinstall Windows? Pretty odd problem.

Is a browser cache worthwhile with broadband?

I can't seem to find this setting in Firefox, Bozo. Can you tell me where it is? Incidentally the about:config shows an option to enable/disable the browser disk cache. Probably not a good idea to disable it, though.

Smart move, Merc! Though I know these things exist, it would have never occurred to me to use one in similar circumstances. I don't understand why it shouldn't matter. If somebody next door wanted to snoop, couldn't they? And given the affluence of your client, I'd think security would be a...

    Greased Disk??

You're really, really, risking it, Bozo. WD-40 is too thin to begin with, and with the heat of an operating drive, practically useless. Is a browser cache worthwhile with broadband?

I wonder, sir, if having too small a size will actually hurt more? As in, the quota is filled up, search for the oldest file, delete it, and then write the new file in the cache, as opposed to just writing the new file. If one does not need to go back to the cache like the Hon'ble Mercutio, it...
