Dreamweaver is like Frontpage with half the suck removed. You can use it if you need to without getting ill, but it's best to be avoided.

    iPad: any experience?

    Not very long, IIRC.

    Why must TV forsake me?

I have all the original episodes in a folder around here somewhere...

    USB Flash Drive

This is of course very sound advice. What I would like to set up is a bootable partiton on the mechanical drive that is the rescue disk with an automated restoration script (with a single "OK" prompt of course).

SSDs - State of the Product?

It is 4x PCIe. Much better than any SATA IMHO.

    Unusual SSIDs?

"SendBeerTo3204" in a hotel that charged a fortune for internet access.

    Why must TV forsake me?

My wife has never seen any Star Trek. I'm considering doing the chronological thing; starting with the newest movie, the highlights of the original series (tribbles, etc), the first movies, some episodes of TNG, not sure. She did Star Wars 1-6 for the first time in chronological order as well.

Eneloop Alternatives (or Cracking The Battery Lingo Codewords)

I use a powerex with my eneloops. Work great.

SSDs - State of the Product?

You can jump into the RevoDrive pool with me; they are very fast. OCZ is a liability, I understand that, but it hasn't bitten me yet, and I have at least 15 of these things.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I suspect that they have found very few people will pay appropriately more for a higher-quality drive. It simply isn't something that the OC/tweaker/fanboi crowd cares about. The rest of us get to choose between flakey mediocrity and super expensive enterprise stuff.

SSDs - State of the Product?

They only got into the SSD game because everyone else was making real crap. I don't know why they are in there now.

Company computers, yes. Personal computers, no. They can't afford to have me do it every time, and aren't able to themselves.

Wow. Congrats! I'm in for ~$240k on the house and $30k on my car. At least I got one car killed off.

SSDs - State of the Product?

I don't use VBox, but I have the host and guest on an SSD all the time.

    Bite me, WinSXS directory

I have blown that directory away with 100% success in the past. Take a backup first, of course.

I assume you mean USB3.0 8GB+? I have the 64GB version of this and really like it.

The cheapest if you have time and need more than a few is to get a small miter box and some long frame stock. Taking it to the next level and cutting some glass yourself isn't as challenging as it sounds.
  18. ddrueding

    Something Random

Frames have always been the more expensive option. I find having pictures printed on canvas stretched on frames to be cheaper.

Windows 7 SP 1 is out

For the record, none of my machines have had any issues. The common denominator seems to be that the machines that broke had previously had infections of some kind.

    12TB storage

I'd bet it doesn't support 3TB drives correctly.

    Why must TV forsake me?

Nope. I vaguely remember her from True Lies.
  22. ddrueding

    12TB storage

I've just got a bunch of drives sitting on my desk with some USB fans blowing over them. I'm sure I spent less than $2200 ;)

My FAH GPU tracker had enabled the "one unit mode" on two of my computers for a couple days.

It's 34 degrees, and snowing outside, in Northern Kalifornia???WTF?

Just a guess, but there might be something else in your pants as well...
  26. ddrueding

It's 34 degrees, and snowing outside, in Northern Kalifornia???WTF?

I saw the snow, and then checked the thermometer. At that point, it wasn't sticking anywhere, but you could tell what it was as it fell. It never got below freezing, but there was still some accumulation (a few mm) on roofs and in the grass at one point.

Not me. So few points...I'd rather keep my B.Spec driver doing 24-hour races ;)

It's 34 degrees, and snowing outside, in Northern Kalifornia???WTF?

The temp is dropping pretty quick at the moment. Good thing I insulated the heck out of this house. Supposed to do some flying in a light aircraft tomorrow morning, hope there isn't too much icing.

It's 34 degrees, and snowing outside, in Northern Kalifornia???WTF?

50F mid-afternoon. Then it started snowing. Then the temp dropped 15F in 30 minutes. An hour later it stopped snowing and came back to 55F before the sun set.

Windows 7 SP 1 is out

So far done 5 machines. 2 were flawless, one disabled the add-on video card and went back to the onboard, one can no longer access terminal servers that aren't on it's own subnet, and one went into a BSOD cycle (safe mode too). It seems to be a bit fussy.

Random tip. If you buy the super-cheap Office Home and Student 2010 key card (no disk), the disk from an Office Home and Business 2010 will work fine, and give you 30-day trials of the rest of the software.

I would agree, B3, except that so many manufacturers are just using the reference design, even the cooling system. All my GTX580s use a better cooling system, but that is the exception.

Got a great deal on it, and the cooling fan thingy actually isn't that loud. Edit: And you can never have enough RAM ;)

I must agree. I've recently switched from ATI cards to nVidia hardware for their folding performance, and haven't experienced the suckiness that sent me to ATI years ago.
