    Scripting help?

Nearly. 1. Read from a file called names.xls 2. Generate folders A-Z 3. Rename a different file, "Master Competency.xlsx" and put it in the folders. What you are going now is exactly right, except that the file I want copied is different than the file with the names.

    Scripting help?

Handruin, Finally got to testing yours...seems to be missing something? I'm trying to copy and rename an excel spreadsheet, but not the one with the names...a different one. There doesn't seem to be room for an argument that would specify the file to be copied. It does function exactly as...

    Dell PERC 6i failed?

I don't know, but I'll be able to tell you in a few days. A customer's multimedia data needs are growing darn quick; he now has 3 3TB USB drives and is beginning to worry about backups. He still has the originals, so backups aren't strictly necessary, but he's beginning to appreciate the time...

    Fanless CPU cooler

I have quite a few of the 120mm and 80mm Noctua fans, and am quite happy with them. I didn't get their 140mm fans because I couldn't set them on edge and have them stay up.

    Fanless CPU cooler

Thanks Coug. Have any of the reputable companies come out with anything larger? There is basically no static pressure, straight CFM at low noise is ideal.

    Scripting help?

Not being able to solve this problem should cause my geek card to be revoked, but I can't figure it out. I have a spreadsheet ("names.xls") with a single column and a bunch of rows. Each cell contains text that includes spaces, numbers, commas, etc. What I need is to copy a file "sample.xls"...

    Dell PERC 6i failed?

You could make the USB drives Dynamic Disks and then make them a RAID-5 array, but Lunar is right, that is a sub-optimal solution.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

No, there will be a pole coming down from the ceiling about 20", with the monitor mounted at a 15-degree down angle from there. The whole thing can rotate. I would have used an extending wall-mount, but the wall this is going next to isn't a real wall; just two layers of sheetrock dividing a...

    Virtual servers? How and why?

    1. Don't worry about it. 2. Dedicate a disk. There isn't that much of a performance hit just running in a virtual environment. The hit is multiple VMs beating on the same disk. Give a VM (or even just the database) it's own spindle (or better yet, SSD) and it will be more than happy.

Windows 7 allows you to set whatever resolution you like. It will scale and look like crap, but for some reason they never notice or say anything, even if I point it out.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

30" might be a little big this location. Something in the 26-27" range with a native res of 1920x1080 and high image quality would be ideal. I suppose I could consider this Viewsonic 27" TV, but after my experience here I am tempted to go back to monitors.
  43. ddrueding

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

Just one more negative thing to say about it; the lag is really bad. I would have blamed it on the PC or not noticed it at all, but having both screens mirrored off the HDMI splitter side-by-side makes it really apparent. Another attribute to look into when buying my next screen.
  44. ddrueding

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

Newegg, just more trouble than it is worth. It will end up with a client I don't like so much who wasn't going to run it at default resolution anyway. It will likely be at 1280x720 knowing them.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

I just tried setting it to the highest resolution in it's EDID (1600x1200) and it looks perfect at "16x9". The box doesn't say 1080p anywhere, but the manual clearly states "Optimal PC resolution is 1620x1080@60Hz". Looks like that simply isn't the case.

Televisions as monitors: What are you using, and why?

Right now I have it on an HDMI mirror with my ASUS monitor. It is being driven at 1920x1080 to the corners of the screen, but the interpolation is obvious. If I set it from "fit" to "16x9" (which I assume is the "1:1" setting), then it blows off all 4 edges of the screen about equally. Telling...
